Recently replaced the cam seal behind the CID, but it continues to leak. So I pulled that seal today to replace with OEM Ford part and found that I had scored the camshaft.

I have read the posts regarding redi-sleeves and was wondering if they could be installed without removing the camshaft?

Steve, what does that do to the seal...do you need a different seal when you have a readysleeve?

What do you tell the clerk when you order it?

You use the same seal. The wall thickness of the redi-sleeve is less than 10/1000ths and the stock seal works fine.

KWK99157 plus a 1213N seal.

Is there a source for the "stock type" cam seals. I'm not a big fan of the newer style that's thinner, and has a metal outer edge.

Thanks for the information.

Regarding installation: what is the best method. Is there an installation tool to press the sleeves in place? I read somewhere that they are hammered onto the shaft, but given the close quarters I am not sure I can accomplish that.

The repair sleeve will come with a driver sleeve. You wil need to drive or press it onto the camshaft far enough so that the bell shape is inside the plane of the camshaft seal. While the directions call for removing the bell after installation, it can be left alone as long as it isn't making contact with anything.

You can gain extra working space by removing the nuts securing the motor mounts to the subframe, then jacking the front side of the engine up 4-6".
