I dont know if this is the right place to post this but I was wondering if there were any (cheaper) alternatives to getting a rebuilt transmission with a quaife installed.
I work at a local salvage yard and I am able to get a transmission with 140k miles on it for $350 and in the near future I am going to be interested in rebuilding this and having a quaife put in.
I know there has got to be a cheaper alternative to the ShoShop deal.

I have watched the SHOnut video on rebuilding the tranny, which by the way is a very good video, but I dont have the tools or access to the tools to do some of the things that I need to do.

Does anyone know someone that knows what they are doing that will do this cheap? I will supply the transmission, the quaife and if need be the rebuild kit aswell. I will pay for shipping both ways.

Just doing some price shopping right now, but any insight is greatly apreciated.

Any other options you can come up with are welcome aswell.

Thanks in advance. :hail:

P.S. - Afterwards I will have another transmission with 112k on it to sell, anybody know any transmission core buyers that will pay top dollar?

you work at a salvage yard and you are paying 350 for a tranny that has 140k on it? You know thats not a deal right? 100.00 is a deal...150 is typical. 200 is a high end cost.

Well, our entire 'group' is pretty expensive. This was the cheapest one in our system. It was for $400 and its in NJ (I'm in Omaha), I got him down to $350. All the other transmissions in our system were $500+.

You should let me know where you can get a transmission for even $200 and I'd greatly appreciate it.

And thanks for all the posts everybody, keep em commin'. :thumb:

Where to get er done....

I had Bruce Malachuk do mine. He dry Film lubricated my tranny internals and installed the quaife to spec. He also dry film lubricated the Quill sleeve for the clutch and installed a drain plug on my tranny.

I was impressed with his work.
I would not hesitate to have him do it.

You can email him at [email protected]

He does good work.

The ebay price for MTX-IVs was running around $300 for a long time, but I think the last few that I've noticed go by went for less than that, closer to the $200 range. Condition matters, though, of course.
