As long as your maintenance is up to date (upper and front 60k Service) and the engine has good compression there is no need for you to rebuild it. Change your rod bearings and be more concerned with the transmission and other vital components that affect daily driving. All of this is assuming you just wanted to rebuild it for peace of mind and that there is no mechanical issues that are known. Save your money!

Has the transmission in the car been rebuilt or replaced?

no it hasn't yet but i plan on having it done very soon or getting a newer low mileage one because this one seems to have have taking a pretty big beaten from the previous owner (terrible SHO owner) im basically redoing as much as i can to ensure the life of the car will last me a very long time ive loved these cars since i started seing them in the shop i worked at when i was 13.

That trans is what you should REALLY be worried about. There are threads and links on other places(not sure where) that show how to rebuild an ATX. Its really not that hard if you have a decent set of tools and a spare trans to rebuild so you can just swap in a good one without having the car down for an extended time. A good rebuild with a transgo or superior shift kit is supposed to really wake the ATX up as they weren't really built amazingly well from the factory.

As for the motor, do the front end, do the shims, change the rod bearings and just check the compression ever 10 or 20k as needed. The rings on these engines will hold up practically forever if the rest of the motor is properly maintained.
