rear windows dont work and car wont unlock

ok I have a problem where both rear windows wont go up or down using the drivers switch or each individual switch in the rear. The car also will unlock but wont lock using the drivers or passenger side switches. I didn't get a chance to check the fuses, but could this just be a fuse?

I would also check for bad/corroded/cut connectors/wires.

my car does the exact same thing. back windows wont do anything regardless of what button you press. and the doors will only lock, they wont unlock from either of the interior switches. in regards to the windows i was thinking that it could be a problem with the switch that disables the back windows. the locks are still a mystery entirely.

ok well lets figure this out because this is friggin anoying. Everytime i have to lock the car i have to go around to each door. i didnt get a chance to check the fuses and wont be back to the car until the 20th so i cant really do anything until then.

does anyone knwo if all of the switches are routed through the master switch and maybe if the master switch is messed up it messes up some of the other operations.

Yes, all the power to the windows and locks is routed through the drivers switch panel - its possible that contacts on that block are corroded and making the stuff not work. This is more likely than a fuse, since they partly work and partly don't work.

This makes sense, that maybe the rear window lock out switch is bad and its not allowing you to use the two back windows. But does that lock out switch lock out the master controls on the drivers door as well? and as for the locks. if the switch on the drivers side was only allowing the doors to lock would that affect the lock on the passenger door only being able to lock as well?

well I think i might pull the switch panel from my other 93 because I know it works and ill see if that doesn't fix the problem after i check the fuses, ill then post my results so this can help others having the same problems. I wont be doing it for a few weeks though still, and my main priority is getting the car ready to pass inspection, so replacing the brake line and cam seal are number one on the list right now.

If the window lock switch is broken, the passenger side front window will not work either. Id say its a switch issue, but who can really tell without any kind of diagnosis. Its just strange that just the rear windows dont work, and the locks. Who knows what people have dont to the wiring over the years.....sounds like something someone would do if they had little kids.

yeah but thats what the window lock switch is for, and the car will unlock jsut fine but it just wont lock.

ok guys finally got around to screwing with this. I had a minor problem with the car... engine blew... anyway got a new engine in and now back to this stupid window problem. I checked the fuses under the dash (I assume its not a big fuse in the fuse box) and i swapped in a known working switch panel and still have the same problems. Car will unlock but not lock, and the rear windows do nothing with divers switch and/or rear switches (no the window lock is not on). What the heck can this be?

Dude, I'd try to help but I HATE electrical issues. Hate, hate, hate!!

I know that the rear windows have issues, sometimes lubricating the tracks can help. You might pull the door panel and clean the connectors and then put some dielectric grease on them when you reassemble them.

I have a similar issue with my 93, not with the locks, but the rear windows not opening using the master control. One rear window will open with the rear switch, but not the other one. I replaced the master control already and that didn't solve anything. I don't know what the issue is with it but since it's usually just Daniel and me in the car and the AC works I really don't care.

ME TOO! I have a mustang that is a wiring nightmare someone rewired the whole ignition system and its a mess. Im ripping it all out and redoing all the factory harnesses. But as far as lubing the tracks and stuff what are the odds of both rear windows not working with any switches (ok both motors bad is possible) but that the doors unlock but don't lock? thats weird.

That is strange and I have no good answer for you. I know that the rear windows have problems with collecting dust and moisture. Being that the tracks are lubricated the dust tends to collect over time and they just get gacked up. Wiping the old lubrication off and applying new clean lubrication helps. (Works with the sunroof too just FYI.)

As for the door locks....no clue. You might consider a possible issue with the wiring where it goes from the body into the door. Maybe it's gotten worn over time from all the open/close/open/close action or from vibration?

ok thanks, I was thinking about that wiring thing too, I might have to check that out. Just ran into a major problem with my other motor (the 3.3) so since its not summer I wont need windows down so its on the bottom of the list.

Well, when you get to it, try the wiggle test while pushing down on the door locks or the window buttons. If it moves/locks you'll know it's in that section of the wiring. When you get to it that is.

Well I just posted a bizzar issue with mine. I can't LOCK my doors and it's blowing the #8 fuse. I believe a common denominator here is the RKE. I'm going to disconnect it in the trunk and see if the fuse still blows.
