Rear window trim

Went to a auto glass supply place to try to get the trim piece that goes around the rear window of a 1st Gen. They said that the glass is no longer available. This is fine, I just need the trim that goes around it. They say it is not available from any of their distributors either. I checked a few other companies and get the same response.

So, does anyone have a source for getting trim for around the rear window? What is on it now is a trim that is pressed onto the lip of the glass. Problem is well, It has failed over time.

Those have been long gone a long time ago. There was a time when these early car sections were more active that several owners were removing the windows from junk yard cars. They took the whole window and swapped it out. I think I may have done that for one of the rear triangle windows in my '90 a long long time ago (maybe in 97ish). The problem is the outside trim is made from a material that degrades and some people have sanded and painted it but I don't know if that is enough to keep the material stable over time.

I have never seen those windows without the trim as a unit or vice versa. Never even heard of a repair with separate pieces since I can remember.

Well looks like at some point in time somebody tried replacing some window trim on mine. This is kind of what I'm looking for. I know what you're talking about. The black trim that you can sense down and repaint, but this is not that. The picture is attached.

Yeah I thought you were talking about the small triangle windows at the C pillar just past the rear door. I've seen a few of those. I don't know if they got kinked with a rear glass replacement or if it's just weathering and shrinkage. That looks like it should have a Ford part number. May not have anything out there but it looks replaceable for early insurance repairs where supply chain has to carry parts.

The window places say the back glass and the trim are not available anymore. For this reason I am looking for an alternative.

If trim is separate from the glass and no new are available you could always look into how to swap in a used piece? I don't know how this is done but this should be a common Taurus part and the rear might be common through 91. I can't pull up a parts diagram from the usual ford parts sites online

I have run into this same issue on my 95. The glass is fine but the rubber seal around the window is in bad shape. I was looking to see if anyone also had any info on this too!
