I have a 1997 SHO and I hate the small rear brakes. Eventually I want to do that 11.6" rear upgrade from MidwestSHO.com but for now I'm broke  (Don't we all know what that's like!) I was wondering if anyone knows if I can put vented disks on my rear brakes. Doesn't the Lincoln Continental use 10.1" vented rotors for the rear instead of 10.1" solid rotors like on the SLO and 1993-1999 SHO? If that's the case, could I just buy Lincoln rotors and caliper brackets, and maybe calipers and swap them out or what. Does anyone know?!:nut:

There is something you can do using gen 1 brakes but i think you lose the ABS. Honestly, I dont think the rears need to be upgraded. I took my car to a track with Hawk HP Plus front pads mounted to cobra calipers and my rear wheels still locked up first. (My ABS doesnt work for some reason) If you still wanna upgrade the rears, you will need REALLY strong front brakes to keep the car in balance. P.S. After several track laps, my rear brakes really werent that hot.

If im not mistaken the rear brakes only do about 10% of the stopping and are the E-brake, if your looking for best saftey and stopping power upgrade the front to mustang brakes... and they look cool to

I dont know about the lincoln parts but go and buy: Rotors, Calipers and Caliper brakets for a Taurus or SHO with rear disc brakes from 89 to 92.
You won't loose ABS because the ABS sensor in at the knuckle.

Exactly. The rear bias plugs help alot when it comes to actually using the rear brakes. Even with the plugs, though, I don't think it's really necessary to upgrade to vented rears.

As many people have found out at the track, the stock brakes are more than adequate (even in extreme driving) if you utilize good pads. Yes, the rear brakes appear small, but they are definitely up to the task. Appearance is worth something, though...

With the big brakes on the front the rear wheels don't even really stay on the ground if you unplug the ABS fuse, or at least that is what my wife said watching me seat in the pads one day. Aesthetically they do look a little stupid back there, but for those who have driven my car I don't recall anybody saying "sure wish it had more rear brakes".:naughty:

Thanks for the info, guys (and gals?). I might get the 12" upgrade for the front and the 11.6" upgrade for the rear from ShoBrosGarage.com. I want to get the 13" upgrade but don't want to get 17" wheels because I'm poor. At least most of you agree that the rears are aesthetically small and look odd!

aren't mustang rotors like 10.5"???

The COBRA 13" setup would look nicer, but as I'm reading up, brakes don't start to get fun until you buy a setup that doesn't use an OEM ford caliper
