A while back I made a post about what subframe bushings to use in my Showagon. Heres what I came up with, stock gen1 (89-91) SHOs use all 4 of the DORMAN Part # 924000 bushings. 92-95 use DORMAN Part # 924000 for the front, and DORMAN Part # 924011 (hockey puck looking) for the rear.

I went ahead and put all four of the 924000. Cars drove fine, but within the last few week before the transmission died, notice a popping once in a while when turning. All other suspension has been changed. I think its the DORMAN Part # 924000 bushings being in the rear. I want to put the DORMAN Part # 924011 hockey puck looking ones. Only thing, there obsolete and I can not find them anywhere. Not even rockauto, says they dont exist.

Now I saw some people suggest I use Gen3 bushings. They will fit? The gen3 uses DORMAN Part # 924000 up front and DORMAN Part # 924012 (another hockey puck looking one) in the rears. So use all DORMAN Part # 924012 on all 4? Or maybe DORMAN Part # 924000 up front and DORMAN Part # 924012 in rear? I just want to make sure anybody knows they will fit. I can find them brand new on rockauto for 15 bucks. I want to change the bushings on my other cars to.

When using the Gen3 rear busings people refer to the Ford bushings. I am not sure how the Dorman bushings match up.

IIRC, you picked the worst of all the bushings available.

You can get Gen 3/4 bushings at the junkyard for cheap.

Just an info on the rear GEN3 ones.

On rockauto they are 15$ a piece with the bolt. DORMAN Part # 924012

In my opinion, these are the best choice of bushings to use - they hold the subframe firmly, but you do not get the added nvh issues that you do if you use aluminum bushings.

these fit fine. you need to do a slight modification to them, because the white nylon part (left item in the photo) has some bumps on the outside diameter that are used to 'key' the bushing to the proper orientation in the gen3 subframe, and the earlier subframe does not have the slots for the bumps. so you either file off the bumps (recommended) or you file/cut some notches in the hole in the subframe so that the bushing goes in. once you do this, they fit fine and work very well. they are what I have in my wagon and my 92, and I will use them in any future subframe bushing replacements.

At the junkyard? They will all be at least 10 years old. I'm looking for new.

Taurii up through 07 use them in the rear, so they'll be at least 3 years old :salute:

These bushings seem to hold up fine - and much better than the older bushings did, for sure.

That Dorman kit is nice, especially if you want new bolts. Not sure how the hardness of the rubber is compared to the Ford bushings, but it can't be THAT far off.

I would also like to get rear Gen 3 subframe bushings on all four corners of the subframe on my 1993 ATX. Do I have to get the recall kit in order to put them on?

You don't have to get the recall kit, but it's a good idea to do it regardless of which bushings you'll use. They recalled the original setup for a reason ;)

The gen 3 rear bushings look the same as the bushings used on the Windstar too, but the Windstar has them on all four corners.
