Anybody have a cheap alternative for the Sho shop rear strut tower brace? Money is tight, but I want to stiffen up the rear. I know and have the money saving front STB, but need the rear. Anybody know? TIA :thumb:

I used the GTP bar available at GMpartsdirect.com and welded on two brackets so it mounts to both the inner bolts. Made a huge difference, more so than the front bar. And for ~$20 on of my best mods ever. :thumb:

I have a welded in tube. Since I had the material laying around and a welder, the price was right.

ive got the neon brace. Its the 95-99 front strut tower brace. I got mine off ebay shipped to me for 23 bucks. The shipping was where they got me, cuz i only paid 6 bucks for the brace. The 2 holes line up perfectly and it works well. I dont see the lack of one bolt posing a problem. Mine is a nice alluminum piece with adjustable ends to put some tension on it. Quite the nice piece, makes me wonder if thats how cheap everything for neons is hehe.

Id do that if i was you, no need to weld anyhting just take it out of the box, hop in your trunk and throw it in. Mine took all of 10 minutes to install and i noticed an instant difference. my rear used to creak and moan going into driveway and what not but it doesnt now.

What other cars strut tower braces will fit the fron of our cars? Like to save alittle cash on these as I already have SFC's, SLSFB's, TPR, Coilovers, Tokicos, Rienforced mounts, etc.. Want to save some cash for my New body kit, paint, and turbo.

To my knowledge the only braces that will fit is the 95-99 neon front brace for the rear of our cars and then if my memory serves me correctly a buick regal mid 90s? is what will work on the front. I have one but its been so long ago i cant recall what it came off of. Something gm though that i recall for sure. The front brace shipped was 20 bucks and the rear was 23 bucks for mine. You cant get much cheaper than that and they both bolt right on. I dont have any pics though, surely someone else does.

yes they will fit.. but IIRC, you have to buy more than one. If you want to do the rear, you have to buy the front from the neon. But if you want to do the front with the neon, you have to buy the front and rear STB for the neon.... i think thats what it was....

Cheap way to do it.... Neon FSTB for the rear- GM FSTB for the front... about 50 bucks... way cheaper than SS's bars....

as for mine i made my own..
Had some 3/4'' stell powdercoated pipe laying around.... flatened out the ends
(heating them up, hitting with hammer), drilled some small pilot holes, and bent them down... now if you pull the carpet back next to the Strut towers, youll find that there is a grove/hole, that the flatend part of the pipe will slide into....slide it into place, drill hole through the metal, and put in a sheet metal screw.... or you could have someone weld it in, but i havent had anyproblems with mine yet... but this will make it sit in the middle.. Allthough that might be helpful to others that stil have the stock subwoofer box. it will clear. me i dont have it.... but i will soon though...

And allthough mine may not have the quality of the neon brace, it still functions beautifuly! I could really tell the differnce. Makes the car feel even tighter!!
thats my info for this thread. any questions PM me....

Good info... 2 Questions:
1) Why do you need both the FSTB & RSTB of a neon just for the front?
2) Another option of using GM FSTB for the Sho's Front - which car/vehicle are you talking about here...?

Is the front even worth doing?

Mine is welded in too. Just used a piece of 1-3/4" OD x .095 dom tubing. Tied in the top of the towers. Couldn't have been any easier or cheaper.
