I just bought my first SHO. It is a red 93 ATX. When moving there is a rattle coming from the rear axle area. Is this the rear struts making the noise? If not what could it be. I have had the car on the lift and can not make the noise by bouncing the car or beating on anything. Everything appears to be tight. What can it be? Thanks for any help you can give.

If you have rear axle noise on a SHO, you must have one of those special one-of-a-kind RWD ones!

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

It could be a wheel bearing or one of the brake calipers hanging up. While driving about 20MPH or so, make some abrupt sharp turns in both directions. If the noise goes away, it's a definitely a wheel bearing. If not, the next thing to check would be the sliding pins on the calipers -- they often seize up. You could also have a parking brake sticking.

Start with the bearing test and let us know what you find.

Thanks guys. It does make the noise when moving on a rough road so it might be the struts. I'll get it on the lift and check it out real good.
