If the tips are still silver, polish them up with some steel wool and Neverdull......you'll be happy.

I painted my muffler cases black to hide them as well.....and naturally, they seem to sound good on these:naughty:

Video: Start/Idle/Slow Rev/Fast Rev. Apologies for the vid quality, taken with cheap digital camera.

After discussing the rasp with another car guy, I'm going to ditch the Magnaflow 4" round straight through muffler I'm using for a midpipe cause I think that's what's contributing the rasp. Some sort of complementary resonant point where it's guts start to rattle... I'm not sure if the monster cans can handle it w/o a resonator of any kind so I'm thinking I should stick a resonator tube in regardless and call it a day. My goal is maybe 10-15% lass muffled than the OE, without rasp, relatively free flowing. Still have Cats, plan on keeping them in.

Despite the rasp (almost completely undectable while driving, regardless of hard acceleration) which I think I can address, I've never been happier with this car since I first bought it almost 10 years ago.

dohcsable, do you have these mufflers or the ones off the GT? Are you still running cats? resonator? Who's resonator? Any rasp at all, loaded or not?

Thanks for your feedback, you can sure see the difference between the before (in the vid) and after painting.

Chris:woo-hoo:
PS: Scoring the take off's for $30/pair sure didn't hurt in the appreciation of this mod!:sun:

Sounds great, Chris! Sounds like you scored well.;)

I have the 4" Magnaflow for a resonator (mid-pipe) with thrush welded (cheap-o's to flowmaster), no rasp at all. I will admit however, at about 25-2700 RPM I have this annoying drone, that just resonates in my ears. Not sure if it is the ****'s or that magnaflow.

I may need to do something different with ol' red and her mufflers.

I thought most rasp came from not having cats?

I think the cats add some laminar component to a very turbulent exhaust gas, especially right before the secondaries open. If there's something along the cat-back that isn't very solid it creates a sympathetic (not complementary) resonance.
I'm guessing with the Yamaha spooling up the exhaust gas has LOTS of potential for creating sympathetic resonances with almost any kind of tubes/resonators/mufflers...

The SC's are bad but not as bad as the SHO.

Been DDriving Green (in Mexico) and I can not believe how losing the rasp and blast from the exhaust has changed the experience of driving this car. I laik it a lot!
