Something was wrong then.
Maybe in your V8, guy. Check your section

The only time I've ever seen my voltmeter kick up to 14v+ was when I had just started the car and it needed to top the battery back up. Other than that it usually hovered right about 13.5V-/+.25V. My Cutlass used to idle at 13.8V and my dad's Blazer idles at 14.5V. Coincidentally enough, a lead acid battery only needs to see 13.6v to charge, as per my Radio Shack engineer's battery book; it's gotta be true because I haven't needed a jump.

OP, get a harness. My brand new headlights were also dim until I just said screw it and direct wired them.

2.26v per cell is the proper voltage for a battery in float mode under no load.

Exactly but with the headlights on and engine running that is a load. Float voltage is for maintaining the battery when not in use.

But it could also be a weak electrolyte concentration which will also bring the voltage down.

Will the SUV harness cause your lamp out out light to turn on? I would think that it might since the relay draws so much less current than a headlamp. I suppose you could just pull the bulb even if it does turn it on.

yes it will cause the lamp out light to come on while the headlights are in use.

You could wait until it reads 12V then start a thread about how the car won't start.
good stuff, the bulbs were forced upon me at the inspection station so idk, there are those illegal "bright" blue lights in there, they were just sooooo bright i still couldnt see shit. how much does one of those harnesses go for
