Re-installing A/C

When I did the 3.2 swap a few years ago I ripped all my a/c stuff out. When I did that I was not thinking of having a kid. Now that I have a 6 month old, I need a/c to drive her around. I have ordered 2 parts so far...

Condenser
Compressor
Manifold
Discharge line



Also, I have had my evaporator uncapped since I removed everything else. Is this potentially going to cause an issue? My compressor has also been uncapped, im sure thats dead.

compressor yes will be dead and the evaporator and the one under the dash as well

Neither the compressor or the evaporator need to be replaced unless you required. The evaporator can be flushed and pressure checked for leaks. The compressor can be pulled for inspection, drain the oil, and fill back with fresh oil in the proper amount. Flush the condenser. Do NOT attempt to flush the discharge line with the muffler on it.

Put everything back together with all new O-rings, new accumulator, new liquid line, oil in all the right places. Vacuum the system and check for leak-down, then charge per specification.

Also, be careful who you take advice from....

in my experience, there is a 99% chance that the compressor will be dead. in the part of the world where the OP lives, the open compressor will have corroded enough that it will likely not do a decent job of making pressure, thus it will likely need replaced.

Since my car is a 91 I originally had r12. does that matter when I'm ordering line?

From what I can remember, the line is not the issue, its the fittings that differ between the R12 and R134a.

you can buy adapters at the auto parts store to convert the fittings from R12 (old) to R134a (new) style. not that expensive either.

if I was going to buy new line I would just get R134 style

as thats what most people have/use these days

if u get a R12 line and want to fill it with R134, you will then need to purchase an adapter(that can leak on you) so factor that into which one costs more in the long run

Why not just put R12 back into it and you won't have to refit your AC system. You can purchase the R12 on ebay!

Found out that the lines I ordered were the r12 fittings. Just got them today

Anyways, now what to do. At work I can re-charge 134 for free. But I have heard that r12 is way better. Also, since the fittings are different do you have to buy r12 charging adapters?

It does not leak as easy as 134-A. 134-A has a tendency to leak over time.

Yes you would, but we can just change them to 134-A easier. No point in running R-12. 134-A is the standard. And it's free at the ****

You can actually still buy r12 here. I think thats what im going to go with. Ive heard people say how cold it is.

My first car was an 89 SLO with r12.
Ice would shoot out of the vents it would get so cold sometimes.
