MY '93 SHO automatic has developed a rattling noise in the motor that goes away when it gets up to about 2500 rpms. It also has a ticking noise coming from the pulley area. One pulley (closest to the firewall) is wobbling a little.

The rattling noise is getting louder. Does anyone have an idea what I should look for? Thanks, Bill.

If the wobbling pulley isn't fixed in time, you'll have bigger problems.

Try locating the source of the knocking a bit more. "In the engine" is a bit wide open.

Sounds like your timing belt tensioner took a dump on you. Rattle coming from the Passenger side rear of the motor? Goes away at 2500 rpms and above, but comes back on the rev down? Pull your upper timing belt cover and check it out.

thanks for the help. I am not much of a mechanic, so is removing the timing cover fairly simple? The previous owner had the battery moved into the trunk, so all the pulleys and the belt are easy to get to. Thanks again for any help you guys can give me. Bill
