I picked up a 1996 Silver V8 today. :dribble:

The car has full gray leather, JBL Premium sound, Premium alloy wheels(chrome), NO sunroof, NO Keyless entry.

Does anybody know if this car with these options are Rare? I mean with No sunroof or No Keyless entry.

Any information would be appreciated!

If I remember correctly, 96 was the only year where an SHO could be had without a moonroof? And they were fairly scarce. As far as the keyless pad, I'm not so sure I ever heard about those being an option/delete.

My 97 has it's own little rarity; a phone in the console. I never got service because I already was a cell user, but I think it's pretty rare to find one of these cars with a factory phone.

I was under the impression that all V8 SHOs had moonroof and keyless regardless of year.

96 also seemed to be the most optioned as well.

IIRC there is data on this over on V8SHO.com. I do not remember details, but am pretty sure that keyless and moonroof were options in '96, and maybe still in '97. By '98 just about everything was standard and the only option available was the extra motion range option for the passenger side front seat.

My '97 had every option including the cell phone. I used to think all SHO's had leather seats but I found a '97 at a local Pull-A-Part that has cloth seats.

Diferent years were optioned with different items... I know someone that has a 96 with MANAUL, heat controll football that would find in a slo.... this came from factory and was not installed aftermarket. There were several SHO's that had cloth interior, my black 97 had grey cloth. The sunroof is kinda strange.

The manual aspect would be a modification post production. No manuals were made at the factory. Very possible the SLO part you mention would be a post manufacture alteration as well. Gray was a standard interior colour with a black exterior. Without more info on what was strange about the sunroof, I cannot really comment on it.

Ahh I read that and it sounded like you were talking about transmission at first too. But when I hit the quote button and re-read it that put it all in context you were referring to the lack f an (Automatic) EATC.

Again on first read it sounded like a transmission and the HVAC controls were not as expected. I suspect you meant that the EATC had been replaced with a manual version. If Ford would have put some kind of MTX behind the V8 I would have killed to know what bolted up.

According to the new production numbers from Ford, 4,069 '96 SHOs were produced, and out of those, 4,046 had sunroofs, which means that 23 had no sunroof.

Similarly, 4,061 had keyless entry, which means that 8(!) had no keyless entry.

Now, looking at just the silver cars: 700 Silver '96s were produced, and out of those, 695 had sunroofs, which means that 5 had no sunroof.

Now, here's the amazing part: 699 Silver '96s had keyless entry, which means that 1 (one) had no keyless entry.

In other words: YES, this car is very rare. :)

Do those numbers include the ones sold in Canada?
Production numbers and sales numbers get used interchangeably here, so I am just wondering.
Since we are all broke up here in cold country, and have been for a generation, there were probably lots of de-contented cars ordered here, just like now.

I know you all are going to pop the bs flag on me. But when I was new to the Taurus field I saw a strange V8 "SHO" myself. The car has since been crushed, but I was stumbling through a salvage yard and I found it. It didn’t have a spoiler but had the SHO emblem on the back no moon roof. But here is the weird part it was a column shift, SLO dash with the SHO gauge cluster, but had the SHO bucket seats. Another wired part I came on I think it had drum brakes. But it definitely had a V8 SHO engine in it; I remember wondering what the **** it was, also got me to google SHO and start my SHO drive...

I have heard of at least two SLOs that had SHO V8s swapped into them. It's not unheard of, but it was definitely done by an owner, not the factory.

They don't even sell the Mercury line up here in Canada anymore..... it is a little too upscale for us!
