Hello out there!
I am Peter all the way up north in Sweden, having a nice black 89.
I probably have the only SHO in the country, and now it is pulling my leg....

*If the CE lights,it won't start

*If the CE does not light, it starts,it runs for anything between 5 minutes and a
few hours.

*Battery and ignitionlock seems ok

*Fuel pump also

*When running,it runs good ,as it should and no strange behaviour concerning
electric system or so.

*I use the car only in the summer, and problem occured already last summer but has now escalated.

Taking info from the forum searching on more or less similar topics I have found out the following possible solutions to my problems,without really knowing what I am talking about;

*Bad battery cables(Don't think so)

*Leaking waterpump disabling Crankshaft Position Sensor(PIP?)

*Crank Sensor(CKP?)

*DIS(Don't even know what that is...)However tachometer is not dropping before stalling....leaves that possiblity out?

*MAF(Don't even know what that is...)

As I am going to the US next week I am now trying to find help from the SHOforum,in order to get the car running and
be able to find the right carparts in the US,as they cost a fortune here(special order blablabla...if I even get the right part)

So,SHO owners out there, try to help me out

Best Regards

Peter Noresson

:oogle: Holy crap!!!! Sweden???!!!!????

Anyway, I'd consider changing the cam sensor....the DIS is the lil grey box on the side of the crossover tube over the belts....might could change that, too.

MAF is the Mass Air Flow Sensor. It is located between the air filter and the intake. DIS stands for Distributorless Ignition System ( I think). Anyway, it is easy to replace. As already stated here, it is the grey or blue box on the passenger side of the intake. You can usually find one on Ebay. It shouldn't cost a whole lot to ship it overseas. The symptoms you describe usually wouldn't be caused by either one of those parts.

My advice would be to do a complete 60K maintenance. While you are in the US, you can get the parts at most any Autozone or O'riellys auto parts store. You can get complete instructions, with pictures at the phoenixshoproject.com web site.

To avoid customs hassles, you can probably order the parts and have them shipped directly to your address in Sweden, or buy them and ship them to yourself. Any UPS, or FedX office should be able to help you with that part.

If you do a search here, you will find that the most important thing to do with any SHO is the maintainence. By doing the 60K procedure, you will most likely take care of the problem, no matter what it might be.

And to help with some of the other 3 letter abbreviations, the Crankshaft Position Sensor is usually refered to as the CPS, and the Camshaft Position Sensor is usually referred to as the CID (Camshaft Identification Sensor). The CPS is located on the bottom of the engine by the crankshaft, and the CID is located on the upper passenger side rear of the engine.

Good luck. And keep posting here with questions. The most knowledgeable people in the world on this car regularly help us all out through this forum.
