Has anyone tried Rally Cross? A coworker has pretty much talked me into trying it.

I just got the SHO running, and since is has a nice case of exploding paint syndrome, I figure what is a couple of rock chips. Obviously, if/when I get it painted, my plans will change.

I watched just a little bit of the last race last season, and it seems to be auto-x in the dirt. At least at the track I was at.

In the front drive class, I should have the most power, but also the largest car. (A lot of old civis and such.) I have done a little auto-x in the Vette, but expect this to be different. I think the biggest negative other than the weight will be the lack of a hand brake.

lack of a hand brake, and lack of a transmission that will not explode with wheel spin will be your biggest issues. having the most FWD power really wont do you any good if you can not apply it to the surface.

if you have snow tires run them, they will be way better then all seasons

serious, be careful if you dont have a welded diff, LSD or some upgrade of the tranny (unless you dont care and have a tow dolly there)

do not be worried about scraping paint and such. caution about bottoming out and tearing things off, skid plates are recommended

I have done rally x and it is some of the most fun i have had in a car, strongly recommend trying it with what ever you have, just be cauious if you need to get to and from work in the same car. learn to drive a slow car fast, rather than drive a fast car slow...(like me)

The exploding transmission thing has me a little worried. I know ours are not the stongest, but didn't figure a little wheel spin in dirt would hurt it. I guess I need to look a little at what can be done to upgrade the transmissions.

I am trying to thing of what I might rip off the bottom of the car, and would thing the exhaust system is most likely. It will need to go anyway, so I am not too worried about that. I actually have some sag from old rear springs.

I wonder how hard it would be to make some removable skid plates.

kicked up rocks to the oil pan / filter / radiator. it may be possible to make a simple plate to cover under the subframe.

most of the wheelspin comes in corrners obviously, inside wheel spinning until you let off the throttle...and there are usually lots of tight turns and hairpins etc.

be the first to make a hydro hand brake for the SHO!

Yeah, skidplates are a good idea. My brother rally-x his 9-2X and we just did an overnight rally last weekend in VT. You really want to have the bottom side squared away. Maybe disconnect your front sway bar to get some oversteer?

Is this a joke?

I hope you are joking. Your going to ruin the car....

Before you blow the tranny, I'll give you 100 bucks for it....

I've thought of getting a beat-up SHO to try this with. Get some tall springs, and make a skid plate to go under the subframe. Maybe do something about the trans/diff. Disconnecting the front sway bar sounds like a good idea. The thing I'd be worried about is the Taurus falling apart.
