Yesterday I noticed that the right side speakers dont work at all.. No problem really, I had planned on putting a nice CD player in it.. (perhaps the one out of my bug)

Otherwise, the wiring that run from the radio, into the stock amp, does the wiring colors match front (radio) and rear (amp)?

Instead of running all new wiring throughout the car, it sounds quite appealing to just use the stock wiring all ready run into the truck..

As well, whats the usual way (placement) of running RCA cables to the trunk?? Along the door sills under the carpet? Or along the center of the car under the carpet?? I tell you this though, Ive never installed a sub/amp in such a big car, with the battery up front and the stuff goes into the rear.. About how much heavy gauge amp cable would be appropriate to reach easily?

I'd try and test the speaker wire wiht a multimeter and make sure that the wire isn't broken anywhere... and hope that the radio is having issues instead...

Unless you want to take everything out of your car to run RCAs and a fat @$$ power cable through the center of your car.. i'd go with the power wire running down one side of the door sill, and the RCAs down the otherside... so as not to get alternator interference....
about the reach... whatever comes in a kit usually is about enough... 30'? I think

I'd like to stay away from the (box install) amp kits.. All I really need to the power wire essentially.. I already have some long good quality RCA cables..

On the deck I plan on installing (Pioneer DEH-P6000 outta my bug) I dont run the speakers off the deck.. Ive used two amps since I installed the system.. Small 200 watt amp running the 4 "door" speakers 2 upfront and 2 in back of course.. I have a nice Orion amp (375 RMS) running an 8" Crossfire in an Obcon box in the back of the bug..

Figuring that the factory amp in the SHO runs all 4 (or 6.. *4 up front right?*) I can run a heavy gauge wire to the trunk, split it, to run both of my current amps in the trunk.. Utilizing the output wiring on the factory amp, to reach the speakers, of course, would make my job a whole lot easier, to connect the speakers to my current "door speaker" amp.. Of course speaker replacement would be in order.. (What is the size in the rear BTW?)

The sub amp and subwoofer isnt really a problem of course.. I'd probably pick up a nice 12" or something for the SHO, (8" is fine in a bug).

Otherwise.. Just hoping I dont have to run completely new wiring to each of the speakers in the car, hoping to just reuse the stuff already there..

OK... Well, here is what I would try first.... Install the aftermarker deck, and see if the speaker that isn't working, works. Just might be the factory head unit being a hastle.

There are 6 speakers... 2 in front... 4 in back. If you take off the covers on the rear deck, you will see some 5 x 8s... ? angled forward and kinda elevated, underneath will be 2 6 x 8's for the bass. then you have the 2 front door speakers. This is if you have the JBL system I believe.

I Haven't used that interface you speak of, but I don't think you will have a problem with it. I am using somethign similar to that... line output converter I'm just using it for the signal coming off of the low end of the crossover for my Subs.

You really shouldn't need to run wiring for the car, If anything, you would need to run wire to that speaker that is not working, but then again as I said, it just might be your Ford Head Unit.

Good luck!

The stock size for the fronts (doors) is 6 1/2", according to crutchfield. My car came with all the stereo stuff *gone*, so I didn't even know about 2 sets of speakers in the back. I have Pioneer 5x7s mounted in the rear deck brackets (or 6x8, whatever floats your boat. Same difference as far as the screw holes, but 5x7 is the more common aftermarket size, I believe). There are wiring diagrams available as stickies in this forum (this forum being "Electronics & Audio", which should help as far as seeing where you'd need to tap in if you need to. I'm using the factory wiring up front, myself. The previous owner already did me the favor of cutting the wires on the factory connector in back, so I knew which ones to use :p Hrm... as far as running the wires: I have my RCAs along the left side, under the carpet up front, then under the door trim all the way back to the trunk. And yeah, it's a pain getting that wire through the trim at the bottom of the B pillar. My handy dandy coat hanger came in handy for that trick. I bundled my RCAs (2 sets) and remote turn on lead together on that side and ran them all as one deal. I have my (4 gauge) power wire run under the car, zip-tied to random things on the right side, then up through a grommet in the dip on the right side of the trunk. It then goes into a Radio Shack fuse block (part number 270-704, $20, decent buy: comes in at 4 or 8 gauge, then goes out with 2 8 gauge leads, fused separately). This set up works juuust fine for my power needs.

Yeah, may have been a bit of a ramble. DEAL WITH IT wink

Good luck beer ,
Jon
