I looked over on Cardomain.com for a wiring harness so I can hook up an aftermarket head unit in my car. I came across two different harnesses.

The one here:
http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOFD10B
Which is the FD10 for a 96-97 Taurus: $54.95

And the one here:
http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOFD20B
Which is the FD20 for a 98-99 Taurus: $49.95

Is there any difference between the two? They look different in the pictures but I didn't think there was any difference in the radios between 97 and 98. Can I save $5 and get the FD20 for my 97 SHO or should I get the FD10?

Thanks,
Matt

If your car has a MACH head unit like every other SHO then these probably won't work. But then again maybe they make this kit so SHO and MACH radio Taurus owners can install aftermarket radios in their car, but just not in the factory position.

96 and 97's are different than 98 and 99's. I bought a 97 radio thinking it'd work in my 99, nope. Earlier ones have two plug in in the back of the radio in the dash. The 98-up have just one large plug in. That'd be the green and white ones in the 96-97 listing from the cardomain website.

My radio has wires that run to the trunk and are spliced into the factory wires that used to plug into the factory amp.

Hope this helps a little.

That stinks. So everyone that has an aftermarket head unit in glove box, near the shifter, etc. ran all the wires themselves and didn't use a harness? Man, I was hoping to get off easy and just use the harness.

Any more input is appreciated.

I have never seen that harness before so maybe its new.

But it's not that hard to run some wires back to the trunk really. Plus on v8sho.com it lists the speaker wiring color codes so once I cut it up it was easy to splice.

This is what I did before I put it infront of the shifter. Heater didn't work but it looked just about right. I think only one person has been able to get his heater to work after trying to do this as well. I don't remember his name though.

... and before that it was in the console. To dangerous to change settings and try to drive.

I'm writing a CNC program to cut a piece of plastic so that space above where my radio sits now is filled. I found a font that looks like the SHO on our bumpers.

If you have anymore questions ask!

you can use the harness if you want, I orginally hooked mine up that way, but due to the component fronts I now have 3 sets of RCA running to amps. I tapped power off of my ignition bundle and one off of the cigarette lighter, if i remember correctly, it's been a while. then again, i am thinking about selling my system, any one want it?

JS1L1 does it just plug into the factory amp and then runs powers to the speakers then? That'd have been nice instead of cutting the factory harness.

yeah.

The way it worked was...Factory amp-->wiring harness-->adapter, where you solder the HU adapter wires to --> HU

I'll take you some pics if I can find my removal tools

Oh yeah, I noticed you talked about a CNC machine. any chance that in the future you might be able to mill me an adapter plate? I'd pay for it of course.

I'm just going to mill text into a little plate above the radio in the ash tray area. I'll just hold it in place with black rtv silicone or something. I havent cut up any plastic though as I've been busy with tests and finals. It took a while to find text that was very close to the SHO letters on the bumper.

but yea, i'll take pictures whenever I get around to it. Probably within a week. and don't worry about cost. the stock we have is free and it would take not very long to cut it.
