Quickstrut cut coil?

As title above states... Have anyone tried cut some coils off Monroes quickstrut and how was the ride?

Paul, I've got Sensatrack Quickstruts and when installed (front) I swapped out the TRW spring for an Eibach w/1 coil cut.

PS: I like the gap I have currently cause it permits easier jacking. Others, lower will need to drive onto something to lift the car up enough to fit a jack.

Due to a misunderstanding the rear got the dropped strut tower treatment instead of the rear Eibach's w/1 coil cut. Problem is I can no longer fit the 17" wheels on the back because the perch is too low. Don't cut the tabs if you want to fit bigger wheels.

When I'm done I want the struts back where they're supposed to be with the cut spring and have it flat front to back.

It rides and corners great, not too stiff to be uncomfortable on the highway or commuting in Chicago, but capable of being pushed hard at BIR last summer.
I also added Ingalls adjustable rear arms/H-brace/24/26 bars and all new bushings with some pretty good Kuhmo tires. a few years ago I was struggling to keep up with guys I was driving away from last summer.
DVP has some good threads regarding other spring/coil cut combinations worth looking into. I have settled on taking everything apart and reassembling with Eibach's, 1 coil cut, and then try to get the car balanced front to back while still clearing a 17" cobra replica, so to summerize, one coil cut on all four corners. What is your current setup, it looks low? I'm trying to remember if the Quickstruts Spring is a linear or progressive, I think progressive, and I think that's why you might not want to cut them. But don't hold me to that.

Just spoke to Monroe and they confirm they use progressive springs. However they still have a dead coil on top that presumably could be cut without an adverse effect.

The 89 got svt thunderbird 5 spoke..and it sit really high and got too much gap...just looking to low it 1" perhaps 2", been wondering if someone did done cut the so called TRW springs(which I just learnt from you that its TRW brand)... yes It got about 2-3 dead coil up top...I cud try or maybe it would be better just to ditch it and get moog, Bg or eibach if im lucky to find one.

The '94blk/wht got Moog/sensatrac set up with 3 coil cut up front and 2 in back and it sit quite low...love it. Thanks for your input!

iirc, the quickstrut springs are similar to the stock springs in that if you cut them you will have them not fit on the perch correctly.

Yesterday, dropped subframe and took qkstrut off...took closer look to see if got some dead coil...found only one coil worth and as Rubydist mentioned that if cut, wont sit on perch right... I am inclined to believe rubydist on this one. The second coil below first coil literally is bigger. If I was to cut one coil it will just net me at least 3/4" drop, pssh not much to do with it! Gonna toss the TRW springs for something better.

I really want to see your progress on this b/4 I tear into mine. I can either cut the brand new Eibach's I got from them under warranty or cut the TRW/Monroe part. The seat to spring perch issue with a cut top coil IIRC settled in and didn't cause any long term problem... not sure of this however...

That's understandable however, If I were to go ahead cut one coil on TRW...
it will still be sitting high and pita to install along gen 3 sfb...as I discovered it by cutting 2 coil first time on moog...still lil gap between tire and fenderwell. So I took it apart and cut one more. i finally got what I am looking for. Moog had plenty of dead coil to cut off. As for this TRW, there's no way to do more than one coil.

I am not gonna do anything on this quickstrut...I got plan for it...it is best remain untouched for stock use.
