quick tranny question

I've removed the starter and CV joints from my 95 MTX. When I spin the half shaft is it supposed to make a clicking noise? I am taking my SHO apart to find a clicking noise (possibly loose PP bolts), but while taking it out I noticed that the half shaft makes a similar noise when spun. However this noise occurs while in all gears and regardless of clutch position, and the noise I am taking it apart for only occured when in gear or with the clutch up in neutral. This leads me to believe that the half shaft is supposed to make this noise when the cv joints are out and engine is not cranking....am i correct? or is there something wrong in my tranny? Thanks!

The half shaft isn't supposed to make any noise when turned. Sounds like your CV is shot.

As for the trans, if it rattles when in neutral with your foot off the pedal and goes away when the clutch pedal is pushed down it could be your TOB.

The CV joints are out, sorry I didnt clear that up. The half shaft is the only thing going into the tranny at this point. I am taking the SHO apart. With the CV joints out it is making a noise when I spin it, and the noise is coming from the transmission.

I'd take the trans apart and have a look inside if I was you.

If you decide you want the tranny inspected, or worked on, there is a guy in Albany that does MTX tranny work. Seems to have a pretty good reputation, but I can't remember his name off hand, haven't seen him around here for awhile.....anyone?
