Guys,

I am changing all four tyres on the SHO. Discout tyre is offering a road hazard warranty for $66 for all four.

Is this worth taking or should I just turn it down like I normally do with pay for warranties.

Let's do some math $66 for 4 that's $16.5 per tire. I suspect a lifetime warranty. Call it 60,000 mile tires. How many flats on average would you get during the 60,000 miles. On that average at $16.5 a tire to fix would you reach or exceed the cost of $66. I say get the warranty Discount is a national chain and could possibly be fixed at any location.

Discount also does free flat fixes regardless of whether you bought the tire there or not.

Personally I generally avoid those sorts of pay-for warranties, but to each their own. My thought with tires has been that if one gets hurt so that it is no longer usable and it gets replaced with a new one, you now have a mismatched set of tires.

I hit a curb with the Focus and killed one of the tires (guddem low-profile things). I bought -two- new tires so that I wouldn't have one corner mismatched from the rest.

Not having the warranty gives you more options on how to handle a problem, having it has limited benefit IMHO.

Dean,

60k out of tires? Which tires are those? I'm lucky if I get half that.

Thanks for the opinions keep them coming. I get 30days from today to decide.

I don't think the warranty for tires on a street driven vehicle is worth the cost. The 4x4 crowd that use their vehicles off road might get their money our of the replacement warranty, but then you could end up with one new tire and three worn ones, which isn't the best idea for a 4x4.

I just took a set of tires off of my VW Rabbit that had at least 50k on them and never had to have one repaired.

It's worth it here in MI.

I've had all 4 replaced free of charge(except that you have to "re-up" on the warranty for another $66) because of sidewall *** hole damage.

I never get the warranty... Its worthless if you are like me and you never run over nails or anything like that. And like SHOaz said, its not very smart to put 1 new tire on. Always do tires, and brakes for that matter, in pairs of 2 or 4.

Execpt for the brakes part there are too many variables with this
# 1 how many miles are on the tires when the 1 said tire goes flat
# 2 do you carry a full spare tire
# 3 is said spare tire new or have miles on it
# 4 if said full spare is = to the rest of the tires do you now have the new tire as a spare
# 5 you get another flat put new full spare on then get another new tire replace it for old on oposite end of the first new do you now have a macthed or closed to matched set on
# 6 maybe not depends on how far apart the tire failure happend

Rav, ask what the manufacturer's warranty already covers. It's probably pretty good and the $66 is just for some supplemental coverage or a way around warranty pro-rating (or not, it's been a long time since I looked at those).

Well, I just bought 2 tires from tire rack for the sho. I didn't get the warranty. If I end up selling my maxima first then eventually I'll get the same 2 tires, only this time I'll buy the warranty. Hopefully no matter what tire gets injured too close to the sidewall or something will be warranteed. Hey, I didn't which tires had a warranty and which didn't. ;) Hopefully that'd work.

If I end up needing to keep the maxima, it'll need tires soon. The tires I'd get off tirerack are like $60 a piece. Spending that much on a warranty for 4 tires would be stupid since I could have just bought an extra tire.

I work at Toyota as a ****/Tire Tech and I'm surprised of how many tires we find with nails in them too close to the sidewall to be repaired. Although lately not so many... Remember there is a lot of construction going on in Arizona all the time. Depending on where you live, some areas are worse than others I suppose for nails and staples and sharp objects.
