What was the (EDIT: had a brain fart...)clamping force of the GenI clutch( 9.25'')?
Also, Was a different flywheel used for them? From what i can tell it seems as though the clutch is smaller and still mounts the same way a 9.75'' clutch mounts. Allthough maybe the dowels are positioned differently.. (like they do much)

The pro's seem better with an aftermarket 9.25'' clutch then a stock or stg.1 clutch w/ the 9.75''. pro's being~~cost, PP's, materials, weight(im assuming there), and life span. BUT thats riding on how much the holding capacity was on those clutches. So i could be beating a dead dog... but i want to make sure... also, I remeber reading a few threads about questions like this, but a search could not bring them up. I do know that a genI clutch on the 9.75'' pp will increase the capacity though... but thats besides the point....
TIA.

It's the pressure plate that gives the clutch clamping force. And IMHO if Ford did a recall because the 9.25 was so failure prone. Your 91 should already have the 9.75, why would you want to move down in size. The weight is not a good answer, because you can get a lightweight flywheel for the 9.75.

uh....yes you are correct... but with the smaller disc you have less area... getting the idea???

Yes i know they did it on the STOCK clutch... yes i know my 91 has the 9.75''.. i listed the reasons why i wanted to..... i wasnt implying it that way. i meant that it weighs less than a 9.75'' clutch.. (im assuming there also.)

If the AFTERMARKET clutch holds 90% more(you know which one im talking about now, dont ya...) that *would* be more than a stock clutch,no? if not close to a stg.1. again, assuming that its lighter, thats just another plus. and not that big of a deal if its not. PLUS the fact that it has wider straps and a better disc, only puts it up at the top of my list. AND!!! ( ) its less than a stg.1 clutch...

thats why i want to down size...
But like i said, this all depends on the clamping force of the 9.25'' clutch... which was my question.

When the "upgrade" was done, Everything within the bell housing was replaced with a larger unit.

The flywheel, PP, and Disc were all "upgraded" to the 9.75

Thanks Kenny.

Just with that, it may not be worth it.. allthough a new flywheel never hurt no-one.

You can get lightweight pressure plates from SPEC, they run $79 over normal cost. SPEC can even customize your disc size for no additional cost. So, you can get a lightweight 9.75" style PP with a 9.25", 9.5", or 9.75" clutch disc.
