Questions about thexton and bleeding brakes

I purchased a Thexton and am trying to bleed my brakes. I am running into some problems. First off, when the pump is running, I go to remove the bleeder screws in the rear and I get no fluid. I go to remove the line from the caliper and still no fluid. I go to remove the steel brake line from the rubber line and what do you know.. I have fluid! So my thought is that the lines are collapsed inside. Anyway, should I be getting a lot of fluid coming out of these lines? It seems like the fluid runs out but there isnt any significant pressure, just a steady stream. Is this correct? Should I have more pressure then this?

The Thexton bleeder is for bleeding the ABS pump only. It has nothing to do with bleeding your calipers. Those are two completely separate functions. You should run the Thexton unit thru it's complete cycle alone. Then bleed the calipers as you normally would do.

And then repeat this 2 or 3 times for maximum effectiveness. :thumb:

Thanks for the help. I knew I had to go back and bleed them manually. I just was a little concerned about how much fluid was actually coming out. Sounds like I am ok though. I do need to investigate those rear lines though.

The rear hoses are known for getting plugged. It sounds like a pair of new hoses may be in your future.

I was thinking the same thing. I called Autozone and they wanted around $27 a piece for the lines. Is this the typical price? I thought it was rather high.

Rockauto.com has them for around $20 each. But you need to add shipping charges, and then wait a week for delivery. After all that, the $27 price doesn't seem so bad. If you have an Autozone nearby, check their price too.

In my limited experience, if your going to replace anything in the rear brake system you should replace everything {if you can afford it}. Nothing more frustrating than having a great running car sitting on the side of the road with a locked up rear wheel!

And the shop that will help you will charge you ~$500 to fix the stuff it would cost you ~$100 to do yourself, ask me how I know!
