Hey everyone. I have some questions about a 2013.

I owned a 2011 and sold it after a year and a half. Im considering getting back into a sho but had some questions that I had a hard time finding answers to.

The SHO I'm looking at is a 2013 with 400a and no options. My 2011 was nicely loaded with the PP, navigation, moonroof, etc..

Here are my questions.

Can I add a factory moonroof to the car, and if so what is the total cost?

The car has full leather and no suede inserts. Does that mean it does not have heated or ventilated seats? I pulled the window sticker with the VIN and do not see it mentioned. The leather looks perforated from the photos though...

How has the reliability of the ecoboost engine been, and more specifically the 2013? Any issues I should be aware about?

The only reason why I'm considering this car is because the price could potentially be really good. However if it doesn't have heated or ventilated seats I will probably pass on it.

Welcome aboard let me try to answer your questions in order.

1. Most likely NO it isnt just a matter of cutting the frame it is wiring, sealing etc...
Even if you could I am sure it would be well more than the $1000 price that it comes from the factory with.

2. 2013 Limited and SHO had Perforated front leather seats. I researched a generic 2013 VIN from used car listings and found that the Heated/Ventilated comes in the 402A
package. If it is like the Limited for 2014 most likely not heated. Perforated and heated/cooled are two different items....My SEL is Heated front but not perforated. The 300A and 400A are perforated but not heated. More on that later.

I can't give specific recommendations for the E/B I know they are powerhorses. I have the regular 3.5 (SEL). The E/B is like any other engine subject to quirks hopefully some E/B owners will chime in soon. Based on forum traffic I can say that there are a lot more options for upgrading the E/B 3.5 for tuners, CAI kits, etc....

Unless the vehicle specifically mentions it in the window sticker I would say that it does not have it.

Back to the seats and option packages.

2013 Models and I believe 2010-12 but lets concentrate on 2013 for now.
The option packages are based on sub models example

100A SE
200A/201A/202A SEL 200 NO OPTIONS 201 Reverse sensing, SYNC/MFT/center speakers. 202A Adds Back up Camera, ambient lighting, adjustable pedals, 19" wheels

300/301/302A Limited

400/401/402A SHO The 400A is base and might have stand alone options like NAV/Moonroof etc...

a 2013 SHO 402A has the following included in the package ($3000)

HD Radio
Heated/Cooled FRONT seats.
SONY stereo system. (Pretty good system base but a lot of owners have found the speakers to be junk and that does include the SONY system)
Active Park Assist (helps with Parallel parking)
Rain Sensing wipers/Auto High beam (Turns on high beams with wipers)
Blind spot Monitoring system (This in my opinion is one of the more safety oriented features of the package flashes a visual warning of vehicles in your blind spot. I am pretty sure it also includes Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) if your backing out of a parking spot it warns you of vehicles coming behind you from side angles.
Heated Steering wheel,
Rear power sunshade Folds down automatically when in reverse.
Heated rear seats.

Your discretion and money but a few quirks that you must be aware of.

The 19" wheels that the 400A come with are a off size tire and hard to find perfect matches, expensive due to the off size.

If you want a SHO just to say you have a SHO then go ahead but I would personally hold out for either a 2014 model or a 401 or 402A 2013 model. I personally would recommend the 20" wheels if you can find one with them at a reasonable price.

The 2014/2015 options got simplified across the Taurus fleet there is basically a 201/301/401A for each and essentially took some of the best and more popular items from the X01A/X02A and combined them into one. (X= 2/3/4 as in SEL/Limited/SHO)

There two issues with the 2013, but they are covered under a recall. One is fuel sensor or something like that and the other is the right half shaft recall. 2013 have better brakes than the '10-12 models. Sounds like the car is a non-pp car which means you don't have the trans and PTU coolers. I have a LME tuned '12 and love it and been very dependable. Bought the car this past Feb, tuned it month later haven't looked back. I have close to 100 passes at the strip this past year and driveline has been solid, gas mileage has never suffered. I think its harder to install aftermarket sunroofs with todays cars unless they are factory equipped. How many miles are on this car?

Sounds about as base as they come.

If the center stack looks like this, then it doesn't have heated/cooled seats:

You want the 402A for sure. Get the right car, this isn't it.

I passed on the car. Theres no reason for me to buy it with less options than my 2010 Saab. I'm looking at the Cadillac ATS now, because I think the Taurus is just too big for me to really enjoy.

If you don't need AWD, get a 09+ CTS-V or 2012+ SRT8.

That's what I would do...

They are nice cars, but I don't care for either of them. Poor gas mileage and I have no desire for a v8 (I drive 25,000-30,000 miles a year). I like small forced induction motors. Smaller cars with a mix of luxury and performance is what I need right now. I was only considering the SHO again because the price was great but with the lack of options it wasn't worth it to me.

find a 13 MKZ with the EcoBoost and 102A or 103A package - it will have all the stuff you are looking for and ride a lot nicer than the Caddy.

Isn't that the same platform as the fusion? I had a fusion and didn't feel it was sporty enough. It handled like a smaller Taurus. I drove the ATS and really liked the car, but it seems they are having issues with the 2.0T melting pistons. I'm also looking at a 328i, 335i, volvo s60 t6. ATS is attractive because the value is dropping like a rock so I can get one for cheap at the end of 2015. Maybe they will have the engine issue sorted out.

The 335i is a beast when you throw a tune and and few mods on it. You will be looking at SHO's in the rear view mirror since it is a lighter car. I am selling my BMW now and getting a 2013 MKS. I love the BMW but if you get one make sure it has a warranty.

Everything is more at the BMW stealership. I am picking mine up on Friday from a $4200 transfer case repair. Also I am sick of $180 oil changes.

A tuned MKS will keep up with a tuned 335xi. Plenty of tuned SHO's running 12.6's with just a tune and MAP sensor.

The MKS will be a nice upgrade for you, lots of luxury and technology a 3 series doesn't have. Plus you won't be driving a chick car anymore :D

I have a 535xi but is the the same motor that is in a 335i. The 3 series runs low to mid 11's with bolt ons. Show me a MKS or SHO that does that.

The BMW definitely has more aftermarket support. But just comparing them with a tune, they are very close.

I'm not really interested in getting into a car with crazy repair prices. I've never owned a bmw so I'm just researching now. I've heard they can be pricey, but one thing I started doing last year is my own oil. My last several cars have all taken Mobil 1 synthetic so it's a huge cost savings to do it yourself. $45 compared to $120+.

In all honesty I'm not looking for a car just for speed. If that were the case I would buy a 2003 Cobra and mod it. I want a car that is quick, fun to drive, and comfortable because I put 25,000+ miles a year on my car. Good gas mileage is a bonus. 4 or 6 cylinder turbo engines are what I'm targeting for my next car. If the car runs a 13 or a 14 in the 1/4 I don't care.

If the 2.0 ecoboost Fusion came with a manual transmission I would consider it. I had a 2009 Fusion and didnt care for the car too much. It drove nice, but was not sporty at all.

I have the 13 SHO and the 14 Fusion 2.0 turbo. Both are equiped with the Sony system. Took the SHO in to ford because the rear speakers were not working. Service rep said this is the way the rear speakers operate and could not find anything wrong. Here's my question; did Ford install a different Sony system in the Sho copared to the SHO? The rear speakers sound great in the Fusion. I'm thinking the service rep is trying to blow smoke up my ***. Any thoughts?

We have a '14 Explorer twin turbo as well as my '13 SHO, and the sound system in the Explorer sounds much better than my SHO's does - and the fellow at Ford said they are the exact same system (Sony premium bla bla bla). A friend of mine has an F150 and her Sony sound system rocks - no idea if it's the same system, though.
