Question on upper dash radio controls

I have the stock JDL stereo setup with the remote volume and memory buttons on the top of the dash. I noticed they don't work at all. Do these eventually breakdown from over use? When I replaced the EATC everything seemed to be connected so I'm not sure why they don't work.

On my past cars, I have noticed the buttons wear out over time. It's a pretty common part on other Taurus's so the trick is trying to find one that was not used. You could try cleaning the connections.

I found a NOS for under $15 on ebay last night. I'll plug it in and see how it goes.

Post back. Those tings take a beating over time and none of the electronics are very durable in these older cars. Wait for the moon roof button to push up inside the housing and the autolight timer/dimmer switch short out.

I hope it turns out to be as simple as replacing the switch assembly with a new one, but I'll be a bit surprised by that. It seems like the buttons that see the most use would fail well before the less popular buttons. For none of them to work would typically hint to me that it's likely a wiring or connection issue.

I remember taking mine apart many years ago to rewire it to work with my aftermarket JVC car car stereo. Unfortunately that was back before decent digital cameras were affordable for a new college graduate so photo documenting my projects didn't happen much and I don't remember if the buttons were tact switches or metal domes/discs. If they were tact switches, rebuilding he assembly would be pretty easy and affordable. If the metal domes, it can be done but may require a bit more labor to rebuild circuit traces.

Finally had a minute to install the new switch, it still didn't work. I was hoping that would resolve it but I only spent $15 for a new unit so it wasn't too painful.
