FWIW, the legacygt.com forum I'm on has this:

vBadvanced CMPS v3.0.1

I'm not "up" on Forum software, but they have one feature that I "really" like.

For someone like me who isn't on the Forum all the time, if I am backed up on posts for a number of different threads, if I click on the oldest one, it always takes me to my unread post within that thread.

Here, once I visit one thread, all subsequent thread clicks take me to the "latest" post in that thread, and my last unread thread may be 10 posts back.

Not asking to spend more $$ for this, but is this a feature within the current level of out forum software?

Not sure if I'm getting what you mean, what you want is to be able to start reading each thread right after the post from where you last left off. For example you read 10 of 10 posts into a thread and then come back several days later and there are 20 new posts and you want to start reading from post 11? If that's what you mean that feature is here, I use it every time I'm on.

No,

the hypothetical here would be Ron is reading a thread about someone wanting to use super wide tires on an SHO.

ron expectedly reacts harshly to such an idea and leaves a scathing reply in kind and then gets busy with whatever it a Ron Porter is wont to do and doesn't check back for a few days.

he then comes back and notices several new posts have been added to the thread and would then like to click it to open it and be delivered to his latest response in the thread, so as to continue where he left off and read the posts chronologically from oldest to newest AFTER HIS latest post as opposed to THE latest post in the thread.

sound about right Ron?

Buying VB for a forum costs quite a few bucks , when you do , you get only one or 2 years of free updates.

Then you have to pay again if you want to get the latest versions in which you have security fixes and new features. I have no idea if what you are talking about is one of those features or its an option in the board that just isnt turned on.

Or its a mod , and some of these mods , you have to pay for them.

When you add up everything , you can be stuck with quite a bill.

On it's face, I doubt we have even a remotely current version of vB. The version we're running is at least 4 years old.

Outside the cost of the latest software, the next considerations would be whether or not our server hardware can support the latest version, followed by the likely need to update the database software to support the latest version (and all the pitfalls that go with that change), and again whether or not our hardware meets the specs for the latest version of the database.

And so on.

We all know that an update is sorely needed for SHOForum, however it doesn't come without the potential for substantial cost, let alone the very real need for the man-hours required to get it done.

tl;dr - Not a current feature, nor is it one that doesn't come with a substantial time and money expenditure.

OK, I was just wondering.

For DuWayme (SHO1), sorta.

If I had 20 unread threads over the last days. And let's say that each of them had 10 new posts since then.

When I go to the first one, it takes me to my first unread post.

When I go to the subsequent 19 unread threads, it takes me to the latest post, and I have to go back (usually looking at my email notification) to see what "my" last unread post was.

When I'm on legacygt.com, every time I visit any thread of the 20 unread I have, it takes me back to "my" first unread post.

Not a huge deal, I just wondered if "maybe" it was a feature that could be turned on in our software. I know next to nothing about different types of forum software.

I might not be understanding you but when I go to a thread I know I all ready have looked at I just hit the go to first unread button that is just to the left of the thread title. And it takes me to the first unread post. Its the little down arrow box.

Sounds like what I thought you were wanting is right, problem is you only get it on the 1st thread you look at. don't know why that would be, maybe something to do with your settings or the particular way you view the threads list and/or go from one thread to the next.

You have 20 threads, each has 10 new unread posts since your last visit, you want to be able to start at the 1st of those ten unread posts in all 20 threads, right?

I am able to do that in the way Marcel said. if you're viewing in the newer RedBar style format it's the down facing arrows to the left of the thread title(doesn't show if no new posts have been made) If you are viewing in the older vBulletin3 blue style, it's a check mark to the left of the title. that check/arrow button is available for me for every single thread that has had new posts in it since my last visit.

If I don't use that check and just click on the title it will go to the very 1st post in the thread and not the very last, but I seem to remember that being a setting I made back in the day, so I could prob make it the last if I wanted.
