I have a 94 ATX and the cats are rusting out and one has a whole in it, and i crawled under it the other day and the way it looks i might have to drop the subframe! I was just planning on dropping the y-pipe and fixing the hole in the one cat until i get the money to get a new one. So do i have to drop the subframe?? Cause on the front side it looks like i might.

Thanks
Nick

I don't think so, but then I only roll mtx's. Might be a little less room on the ATX, dunno?

I suspect you ought to be able to get an extension up there to loosen the manifold to y-pipe bolts. However if they haven't been off in a long time you might find even that challenging. Spray everything down with PBlaster, let it soak and go for it!

Ok thanks!! I shouldnt have to spray it down with pblaster cause i just got it back about two weeks ago from the trans shop after they rebuilt it. So it should come easy!

Thanks

You'll probably need a torch if things are that rusty. Unfortunately, you said you didn't have alot of extra $ right now, so letting a shop replace it is out. I had **** getting my y-pipe off and I have a Southern car--broke 2 studs. I got fed up and let the exhaust shop fix the studs and re-install it.

PB blaster is still good insurance. Just crawl under the car with ANY rust loosener and blast the studs the day before you plan on pulling it.

if the holes are accessible and fairly small just go to a muffler shop and have them welded shut. they do it with the pipe on the car.

Well i got the y-pipe down and broke no studs!!:woo-hoo: Had some stuff called rust bomb. Put it on about a hour before i tried to take it off and it worked great! Welded up the holes, one on each cat. I used 4 inch exsaust pipe and cut about four inch piece of then cut one side and straightened it out flat and had plenty for both. It looks ugly but it works!! Here are some pics of my rigged cats!! :nut:
