I went to install my Yamaha ovals from Al Fitz ( http://www.alfitz.com/sho/ ) and I ended up getting nowhere because I couldn't make up my mind. For one, I did not like the idea of simply sticking the Yamaha over the Ford on the grill. It seems cheesey to just stick it on and have it 3-D not to mention the blue oval is bigger than the Yamaha oval so you would still see blue around it. So, I bought a rear Ford oval/medaillon for the front. Here's my question(s):

Do you guys actually remove the existing blue Ford oval from the medaillon? If so, how thick is the Ford oval? The existing Ford oval seems to already be recessed enough within the medaillon that I could just place my Yamaha oval over it. Would that work?

Thanks.

Get a small flat head screwdriver (I used a pocket knife) and pry it out. It comes right out, and it is the same size and probably thickness as the yamaha embelems.

Here is a good how-to on removing the Ford badge.

That is really strange. In the how-to you linked me to ( http://www.wclewis.com/html/how_to_install.html) it appears that SHO has the Ford emblem type I have in my rear (that didn't sound to good, did it??) on the front. The kind where the blue Ford sits in the chrome medaillon. Mt front is not like that at all. I have a large oval with a clear plastic cover surrounding the blue Ford oval. That is why I went out and bought a rear badge for the front. Hmmmm..

Anyway, do you guys think I could just place my Yamahas over the Fords?

I did not remove the Ford emblems. I just stuck my Al Fitz ones over top. I didn't have any problem with them being the wrong size, either. They both fit perfectly. They do not look strange, because the chrome trim around the emblem is still taller than the Yamaha overlay.

Huh, the front and back emblem are the same, you take out the Ford emblem and stick the new ones in. Just follow Will's instructions.

Ignore the dirty car:

Yes! Thank you k. That is exactly what I meant. I feel the Yamaha will still be within the chrome side wall. I feel that if I removed the Ford emblem the Yamaha will sit too far in. Thanks.

Guys, I swear my front grill emblem was a totally different design from the trunk emblem. It is bigger and has a totally different design. Perhaps '92s and '93's have my type and '94/'95 have the other??

Well, I finally did it. I attempted to remove the blue Ford oval from the medaillon but I just could not get. I even tried a hair dryer. No luck. I was starting to damage my chrome medaillon as I pushed my little screw driver against it for leverage. Anyway, I gave up and stuck the Yamaha's on top. I am actually quite pleased. Since the Ford was a little recessed, the Yamaha is perfectly flush. It looks good.

And, even though you guys don't beleive me - lol - since my front Ford emblem was a unique creature, I used a rear emblem (purchased from E-Bay) for the front (as I mentioned in my first post). It worked fine. I did have to break off the nubs though since they did not line up at all with the stock emblem holes.

Well, this is now mod number two (first was clear corners). :)

Just wanted to add my .02 worth. I have applied/replaced the emblems on three SHO's. They all worked well with heating up the "old" emblem first with the heat gun (yes, you have to be careful), and second, removing them as carefully with a pocket knife. Then, almost as quickly, you can install the new emblems over the old warm sticky areas and they hold well!

I have a 92 and my front and rear emblems are the same size. I removed the original blue ford emblem........thought it was pretty simple. I think it will hold up longer if it is stuck to the medallion and not just to the other emblem. Good luck.

This is really weird. I feel like I am in the Twighlight Zone - lol. Nobody had a unique Ford emblem up front like I did. :( Actually I thought my case was normal when I read Al Fitz's instructions of how to install the Yamaha stickers. In the paper instructions he sent me, it has two different directions - one for the front and one for the rear (which matched my case). However, if you look on his website, he only has one direction!! Ahhhhh. http://www.alfitz.com/YAMAHA Instructions.pdf
O.k., that's it. I am going to take pictures so you guys don't think I am looney. :)

O.k. so that you guys will actually know what I am talking about, here is my front emblem. It is made up of a 1/8" thick black oval which sticks to the car and contains the 'guide nubs'. Over that is a clear cover which completely surrounds the black oval. On this clear cover is the graphics - 'Ford' lettering and ring(s) around it filled with chrome paint. Where there is no chrome paint, there is blue paint making up the rest of the blue Ford emblem.

You'll see mine is missing graphics. That's because it came apart like an Oreo cookie. The creme filling (or graphics in this case) stuck to both sides of the outer cookies. I cleaned off the graphics which were stuck to the black oval because I had a plan but have since aborted. Anyway, you get the idea.

See, I'm not crazy after all (well o.k., maybe a little)
