When cruising the interstate on a straight away going about 75-80 on cruise, the RPM reads about 2700. Then all of sudden it jumps up to 3000 for a couple of minutes and then back down to about 2700. Keep in mind now that this is while the car is on cruise control and on a straight and flat length of highway. Does anyone have an ideal of what would be causing this? Thank You!!!

I cant speak for that specific MPH/RPM ratio but at 70-73 my car will go from 23-2400 up to 28-2900 and then back down. For my car it has to do with transmission / outside temperature and how warmed up my car is. If my car is 100% warm it wont do it at all if it is cold it will stay at the higher RPM and only "hunt" while in the transition.

I posted about this a while ago and people assured me that it was just the tranny doing its thing.

I hope thats all it is for you if not...well i tried.

Or it could be that the cruise control is compensating for the car getting slowed down by friction  .

My tranny does the same thing, but only in the winter months. Temperature is relevent here, if the tranny is cool, it will shift down one gear to heat itself up and then once it reaches it desired temp. it will upshift.
If you think your tranny is slipping, look at your RPM's, are they going up when your tranny is shifting from 1st to 2nd? or from 3rd to overdrive? If you RPM's are going up in between shifts that means your tranny is no good.

I had my 1995 Silver SHO since brand new. Just like what most SHO owners had experienced, my RPM would rev high while the car is still trying to warm up. Once it had reached its ideal hot temperature during the cold months, everything seems to be fine. (Even when it was brand new) So, do not worry for now...I really think that it is the transmission that is doing its job.

 Well, from the way it sounds so far is that most of you agree that it is just the Tranny doing it's job. There is however, one sure way to find out, and that is to wait and see what happens. Thanks for all the input guys!!!
