I just purchased a 1992 MTX SHO with 120K on it in excellent condition from the original owner who took exceptional care of it (oil changes, cooling system flushes, 60K, repaired or replaced items when they needed it, etc. etc. -- and he had ALL the records). I'm about to have the 120K done on it (please don't condemn me because I won't be doing it myself -- I'm in Northern Virginia * and will probably have it done by Protech Automotive in Maryland or at Pat Goss' shop also in Maryland).

I plan to keep the car a long time and you seem to have about the most miles on a SHO of anyone on the site (300k plus, wow) so ....

QUESTION: What is your typical preventive maintenance regime (non 60K or 120K)? I know the type of oil you use (Castrol GTX), but what else do you do and when do you do it, i.e. gas additives, coolant additives, coolant flushes, brake fluid flushes, power steering flushes, manual transmission fluid (type used) changes, etc.? Whatever you are doing is working. Thanks in advance for anything you'd like to share.

* But I'm originally from Texas so it's ok. :)

What part of North VA are you in?

Ford recommends a coolant flush every year(Aluminum head and iron block combo causes a pretty acidic mixture). But that's up to you.

Getting the intake cleaned is a big one. Just over all it keeps the car running strong.

Power steering flushes are a good idea. I've haven't done one yet but I plan to some time.

MTX fluid changes are always good. With a ATX is a good idea to get it flushed every 30k I think.

Brake flushes are good I've never had one done in my life.

Pablo:

Owning a SHO for many miles goes hand in hand with doing alot of the work yourself as Scott has done. Anyways, if you are going to have someone else do the work, make sure they are at least aware of what a 60k involves and hopefully is someone who knows about this board.

What I find hilarious about Scott's car is the fact that everything lasted so long...he had his original brake fluid in his SHO for 250k+ as well as his MTX fluid.
