What are your RPMs when traveling at 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and even 70mph in your ATX SHO?

I want to know for sure if my overdrive is engaging or not, when I'm doing 40mph my RPMs are about 1600, then doing at 50mph I'm doing 1700.

I always though that my O/D wasn't engaging, but never crossed my mind to ask you ATX SHO guys to compare my speed vs RPMs.

Turn the O/D off while driving. If it isnt engaging you wont feel any difference. If it is you will feel it downshift.

When driving watch your shift points. If you see the tach shift 4 times then you know it is going into O/D.

The torque converter in an ATX takes a long while to lock up when it's cold out, like under 60 degrees. In the ATXs I have owned, it takes about 15 minutes of solid highway driving to warm the transmission up enough to allow lock up. Maybe this is what you're feeling? If you didn't know any better, you'd think it wasn't in overdrive. Count the gears it shifts through, if it goes through 4 then OD is engaging, and then the converter should lock up, feeling like a 5th gear.

1700 at 50 mph is clearly in 4th gear, so the od does engage.

My 95ATX is 2k@55 2.5k@70 w/OD engaged and in lock up. Mine is about a 500 RPM difference between lock up and non lock up again w/OD on.

how much difference there is between lockup and non-lockup depends on how much torque the engine is putting out at the time.

also be aware that there are significant variations in how the tach reads and how the speedo reads from car to car.

Cool, great thanks a lot guys, your info gives me peace of mind. Noe I know for sure that my SHO goes into 4th gear. My daily driving is 20 mins at most and - rarely go above 50mph. It's all city driving and I was just curious if about your RPMs compared with my cars after the trans was rebuilt.
Maybe I should take my car for a long highway drive to get the trans really up to temp.
