Question for '99 owners

Yes I think mine does. The windows stop working too after a minute or so. I can't confirm this because my car is a 100 miles away from me right now. But those switch lights go off and the window stops going until the key switch is turned on again.

Paul, are you talking about the windows working after the car is turned off? Another thing I know on the 99's is if you hit the window lock switch it turns the lights off on the other 3 doors.

Yea window lock switch shuts the lights off on the other doors. What I mean is the windows will go up and down for a certain amount of time and then eventually not work anymore because some timer (or something) cuts the power.
Like I said I think the lights go off on the switches after a certain amount of time. I like to sit in my car and listen to music sometimes and I notice certain things. Or maybe I'm just crazy?

Mine is a 6/99 build and the windows & moonroof will work for about 4 mins after the car is shut off until a door is opened. Sometimes the radio will stay on for up to about 30 seconds or so too, although it's never consistent. Not sure about the switch illumination, but I'll make a point to look when I'm out tomorrow.

I thought all Tauruses had this option? My '97 SLO keeps the power to all 4 windows for 45seconds to 1 minute after the car has been shut off or until the door is opened... So does my '01 Duratec

What I talking about is once you are driving, does the window switch lighting turn off?
1. Window switch lighting
On my '97 the window switch lighting is on anytime the key is in run and stays on until the key is off.
2. Interior lighting
On the '97 the interior lighting, with the key off will come on when the door opens then shut off when the any door is closed.
On the '98 the interior lighting will come on when the door is open and turn off immediately when the drives door is shut. When any other door is open and shut but the drivers door the interior lights will stay on for about 15-20 seconds.
3. Radio
On my '97 the radio shuts off as soon as the key is off.
This is all governed by the GEM module. Apparentely the late '99s had a different one than the '98s and early '99s (F8xxx part #). The '97 (F7xxx) part number is different than the '98s Late '99s just have a FX part number? Don't know about the '96s.
I have two F8xxx GEMs one is from a '98 and the other from a '99 car. I have only tried the one from the '98 car. They are serialized and with the '99 one being a later number (of course).

my '99 has a manufacture date of May '99, near the end of the run.
it does everything that yours does and no more.
- radio shuts off immediately when ignition is turned off
- window switches remain lit for a minute or so as long as the all doors remained closed. window lock switch turns off all window switch lights except driver's. (on edit: even when driving)
- interior lighting is like you described for the '98

On my 98, the window switch will not light if you have the passenger switchs locked out. The master control always lights.
Not too sure about the interior lights. I have not been in the car for a while. But I think they stay on for 30 seconds or so, after I shut the door. Unless I hit the lock button on the key fob... I can check if needed.
My radio will shut off when the key is turned off. Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds.
