I have a 94 atx and when I bought it, the person said that one of the AC lines needed a washer replaced. I have never worked with an AC on any vehicle, so how would I go about replacing the washer? Can I pull the line out, replace it and put it back in or do I have to worry about fluids and whatnot that might come out.

Yes, it needs to be discharged before you open it up. You are supposed to capture the refrigerant, not just let it escape into the air, but..... Most likely it needs an o-ring seal replaced. You can buy an assortment of a/c system o-rings from most auto parts stores, and you need the right tool to get the hoses disconnected - ask the parts store guy if you need more help.

I have the o-rings, but will still have to get the tool you talk about. How would I capture the refrigerant? Out of curiosity, how much does new refrigerant usually cost?
