I just had my oil done today (It was free, what can I say?) anyway, they needed to put in 5.5 quarts of oil in. Its always been like that, I was wondering how much everyone else has to put in?

I put in 5 qts. of Mobil 1 5W-30 and a 300ml can of STP Supra Oil Treatment. It is an advanced formula for synthetic motor oils-contains zink diakyldithiophosphate.

With the FL400S filter, the SHO will take 5.5 quarts to get the oil level to the full mark on the dipstick.

I always have to use 5.5 also.... Like the last post says, it depends a lot on your filter.. AND how long you let the oil drain for. If you just let it drain until the large flow is gone, it will take less. But if you let it sit for a while, until it is not dripping very often, you will be able to put more oil in. I haven't tried it yet, but next oil change I will put a Mobil 301 (larger sized filter) on... It might take 6 then.

With the stock size filter you will put in 5 quarts to bring it up to full. With the large filter size, you will need 5-1/2 quarts to bring it up to full. That another advantage to using the larger size filter, besides more filter area, less pressure drop across the filter, long service interval and higher pressure before it goes into full bypass.
