Ok, so I'm shopping around for a 1st gen MTX SHO. A few sellers claim to have a Quaifi LSD, but no documentation. I know the basics about how diffs work, but don't have experience with geared LSDs.

If I jack up an open diff car, I could spin one tire while I held the other immobile. With a geared LSD, I wouldn't be able to? Am I completely off on this? Is there any other way to tell besides tearing the transaxle open? Thanks.

You can pop an axle out and look inside the trans housing. If it has a Quaife you will see this inside. 20180329 131410 20180329 131335

Great. Thanks for the pics too. Would the wheel spin test work? It would be faster and more appealing to sellers if it did instead of asking them to pull an axle off.

The other way to tell would be to drive the car. Do some really tight circles from a stop(U turns) and give it some gas mid way thru. If it has a Quaife you will feel both tires try to bite in the turn. If you've ever driven a 4wd vehicle you will know what I mean.
