Had the car die on me 4 times this morning on the way to work. Here is what I noticed; when under normal load, and I have to stop ahead I pull car out of gear, and the rpm's drop below normal (around 200) if I don't give it gas right away the car dies. RPM's at idle right now are at about 600, shouldn't they be about 800-1100? I did get a CEL, but I won't be able to check until saturday. It seems as if the car for the most part is driving fine, only when the RPM's have to plunge does then act up.

Pointers, of maybe obvious stuff I might not be thinnking of?

Is your Water Pump leaking at all? It might be causing the CPS to fail causing the stall.

Sounds like a failing IAC. When you're in gear, the IAC stays open just in case you do something silly... like let off the gas. This ensures that the engine doesn't immediately die. If, for some reason, the IAC is either plugged up with gunk or is failing electrically or is simply not opening enough, then when you let off the gas, the engine will suddenly find itself with no air with which to combust, and your RPMs will plunge precipitously until the engine reaches a point where it can sustain itself - be it 200 RPMs, or 0.

Try beating on it (lightly :))with a hammer. If that doens't work, take it off (those allen screws can be a bitch) and clean all the little holes out with carb cleaner. if that doesn't work, replace it.

And let us know what happens. Also, read your codes just to be sure. You never know.

trust what hawkeye18 has to say i don't know if i would beat on it but that sounds like your problem is the iacvr ( idle air control valve). when you pull it apart try not to scrape off any of the sealant on the metal gasket it can re-clog your iac and a trick i learned when removing it is loosen the bottom hex bolt just a little bit first then take the top one all the way out after that rotate the iac forward and take off the two screws for the selonid then rotate it back that way it is easier to loosen up the bottom hex and take it the rest of the way out by hand and the service manual says to use carb cleaner and not choke cleaner choke cleaner will eat the o rings and when you clean it spray the whole inside for 15sec constant or until you can see aluminum and no black then shake it out then hold open the spring loaded rod that the selonid is bolted to and spray a decent amount in there shut the valve and let it sit for 3-min after that hold it open shake it all out then dry it out with compressed air but be gentle after drying re-install an your ready to test
