putting a cable shift tranny in a rod shifted car.

This can be done right? The tranny in my 93 took a serious dump and I was looking on car part.com and the is only one rod shifted tranny close to me and it has a broken case. There are quite a few cable shifted ones out there though. I'm guessing since I already have the rod shifter I can just use either tranny?

They are the same. Just take off the cable shifter brackets and selector shaft adaptor and put your rod shifter pivot and stablizer on and your set.
