As the title says I am pulling the tranny on my 94 SHO due to a leak in the torque converter area but I am not sure on what I am going to have to replace. I know about the TC shaft but are their two seals in that area, I was also thinking I might as well do the rear seal on the engine. My main question is. Is their any way to take the motor and tranny from the top without having to drop the subframe?? I have pulled a 93 Shos tranny by pulling the subframe but while doing that I have to admit I screwed alot of things up. I had to cut holes in the frame of the car to get the two front subframe bolts out cuz the plate broke. I would really like to be able to pull it out from the top using a cherry picker. Any advice anyone could give me or even pulling it out from the bottom isnt so bad I just dont want to have to cut the frame again.

it's possible. you have to obviously remove the hood first though. unhook every connector, drain some fluids, probably drop the y pipe, and some other stuff. it's just like pulling any other engine/trans combo out of a FWD car. what you can do is unhook the AC compressor and PS pump from the accessory drive that way they can stay hooked up when you pull the motor so you wont have to recharge or flush the PS.

I'm not sure why you cut out the frame previously. if the nut plates broke off I woulda taken a rachet and stuck it on top of the nut to keep it stationary while removing the front subframe bolts. unless the holes in my frame aren't meant to be there...

Yeah, there are access holes on the inside of the frame rails next to the front subframe mounts. I certainly wouldn't have made any new holes.

Out the top isn't that bad, leaving the compressor in the car, (like I did), adds quite a bit of difficulty.. :munch:
Unless you have double jointed fingers, and wrists.. LOL
I just did mine out the top, with only the help of a drunken redneck cousin.
It actually runs, and the A/C works..
SO, if two drunken Texans can do it right,(3-30 racks of Natural Ice), you should have no problems..

I've pulled my 3.2 w/ATX twice out the top.

Like stated above, I just disconnected the rear p/s line into the pump. Unbolted the AC compressor and just let it sit at the frame. I did pull the radiator and the fans. Pulled the Y-pipe, EGR tube, and intake.

I didn't pull the hood, put unhooked the hood struts and used rope so it would sit straight up.

Not too hard, but you need to be careful with the main wiring harness when it comes out of the firewall, and rubber brake line running from the MC to the ABS distributor.

It didnt have nuts holding the front subframe bolts in it had little metal plates holding the bolt down and it broke and I was not aware of the other holes in the frame till I could see through it. lol.
