I can stand in the engine compartment, so it shouldn't be terrible, but is there anything I should know before I go pulling things apart? Will the drag link come loose without a special tool? And at a glance I don't see how its mounted in there. I seen a write up but it was on a Gen 3, I would assume its pretty similar?

2 large (think motor mount or bigger) nuts hold the rack to the subframe. It sits on top of the rear crossmember. Just disconnect the lines and the tire rod ends and those 2 big nutz should be it (also disconnect VAPS if applicable).
Edit: the steering column comes right off no special tools needed

:) I figured it might be underneath, didnt see a thing up top. I just think it'll be a lot easier to drop 100 bux now, without the problem of getting it out later with a motor in there. :) Thanks guys!

I was noticing how close those are to the rear exhaust... I did think about that very thing. I would love to replace those hoses too, but man.. its just getting expensive.. :) What kind of wrap? A foil type?

Check the harnesses where they run close to the chassis. You'll find that some of the wires have already rubbed through the insulation.

When I did my swap over teh summer, I spent about 2 hours tracking down wires like this and repairing them.

:) I'm really hoping it hasnt. But I wouldn't be suprised in the slightest if it was. There s already one connector i know i need that runs to the coolant temp sensor, that i need to fix / replace. Kinda hoping it will be the last. But I can it does help being an electrician, I get good deals, on the good stuff at the supply houses around here. :) I even found some chromed looking wire loom.. :) Not sure about using it tho. :)

I'd replace those old power steering lines with the engine out of the way. If not, you'll be wishing you did when the line decides to take a crap and crack itself. Also, the lines are pretty cheap, each under $30.

Well... I'm going to replace most of my lines with stainless braided ones, but the part of that deal that stinks.. is the length of them. But now that I think about it.. 30x2 = 60 is about what I'd spend on the other stainless braided lines. Oh well.. what the **** right? My entire theory on this car is not to have to touch it again for a long time. 60k would be lovley!
