Hey all,
Title says most of it. I have a builder car that the motor is out of. I took the motor out the top and left the tranny. A guy offered me enough money for the tranny that I am not gonna say no. Pullnig it should be nothing more than pulling the wheels off, disconnecting the axles, unbolting from the subframe and shifter cables right? I hope there isnt something stupid that will make this more than an hour job or so. The car is in storage buried in the back of my grandparents' barn and that alone will be a pain to even get to the car. I;ll probably drag the car out with the Yukon to the shop and work on it there.
If ya think of anything I might wanna know I would appreciate it.

Thanx

Should be pretty easy. Double-check that you can pull both axles without a problem, on some transaxles you have to put a dowel in one side...

Ok heres what you NEED to do, forget what they said.
Ok start with taken the front fenders off, then the wheels, the left mirror, the trunk lid, and take your spare tire out.
Then jack up the car, from the rear, make sure you get a good lifting spot, preferably the spare tire holder. Then unbolt the subframe, but make sure that the tranny is supported, i used a coat hanger. then pull the sub frame out through the engine bay, and Wola! tranny is all ready to go sub frame and all!

But if you only need the tranny by itself, then yeah it will be easy enough!
Dont worry about it, its all easy,
Man the things you think of when your board....

id just unbolt the trans mount, shift mechanism, and wiring and yank it out. the intermediate shaft should give enough play for the axle to come out. when one side comes out, side the trans the other way and the other slides out.

Josh, can i have what youre smoking ?

I've always had to pull the lower ball joints and tie rods off to get the halfshafts out, but that was with the engine in it.

if you dont wanna keep the half shafts, cut the inner boots and the joint comes apart. there should be enough room to compress it(along with the slack from the intermediate shaft) and remove it from the transmission on the passenger side.

it may work, it may not...never know til you try. at the first instance of trouble, do it right (undoing the ball joint).
