Does anyone have a pic of the power steering pulley off and the idler pulley off? My S/C Gen 3 is sqealing like a pig upon start up and I'm narrowing the culprits down to one of the three. Doug had to put 2 idllers on there to make the blower set up work, and it may be one of those but it surely sounds like the power steering pulley to me thus far. I know Ford used "special" bearings on the Gen 2 that only they had. I tried to match them up at Napa and it didn't happen. I just want to see what the p/s pulley bearing looks like and idler pulley, maybe they are the same and I can pick them up tomorrow at *****. And if anyone has part numbers that would be sweet too! I'm just not looking forward to fighting with that long ass belt and lining up the 15 damn pulleys again!! That was a nightmare.:banghd: Thanks in advance guys! ****

I got a alternator tensioner pulley sitting here, and I thought the bearings were the same on both...

You also talkin about the bearing inside the pump?

Hey Eric,
Not quite.....Well, maybe. Heck if I know. :nut: Its not the bearing inside the actual pump itself though. I know on the ilders there are bearings pressed inside the actual pulley and are two pieces. I haven't taken a look at the p/s one, thats why I was hoping for a pic of it. It would make too much sense for Ford to use all the same bearings for their assorted pulleys, but who knows. Thanks for the reply. Lets see if anyone else chimes in too.

Well, the one I gave you the # for what that "pressed in" 2 peice job on the alternator idler.. and from what I remember I thought both of those bearings were the same. I was able to pick the seals on mine, and repack em... Let me find my camera and I'll get a pic of the bearing ..

Much appreciated. I did some more research and it looks like there is not a bearing on the p/s pulley as its one piece. The bearing there is on the pump itself. GREAT! Wonder if thats replaceable or do I have to get another pump all together? I'm hoping its one of the installed idlers from Doug and the part number you gave me will be sufficient. Now just gotta get time to fool with it again.

I had a couple of old mechanics tell me I was crazy when I talked about obsolete bearings... I bet if you give that number to a machine shop they could get em.. there was something in those 5 speeds that are hard to find.. can't remember what it is.. I never did get over to that place that did my heads to see.

NSK's are pretty standard bearings, and those sizes seem that way too.

Thanks for the pics Eric. But they don't look like the ones Doug added to my car. I don't have a pic handy of mine off the car or in the car but they resemble the pulleys off the 4.6/5.4 V-8 Mustang/truck motors as the belt rides on the pulley with no raised side to keep the belt aligned like the one you have pictured. Come to think of it, I think the pulleys look like the SHOs tensioner pulley. Smooth with a rounded side. But, the bearing number may still be the same. I have my fingers crossed. :p

The hard to find ones were the tensioner pulley bearings. They were obsolete. When I gave them to my Napa guy, he came back and said his book had all the part numbers except for the couple I had. Like they skipped those numbers or something. Ford must have had the rights to that certain size and no one else did. When I had to replace mine, Doug hooked me right up with new bearings and pulleys. He had bought all the ones he could find, and they were brand spanking new too. He said because they were obsolete no one had them. And it's no big deal now as my Gen 1 and 2s are gone, but I hope I don't have the same problem with my Gen 3s. Thanks again Eric!

Yeah, I have a few spare pulleys here off my other trucks. Not including the 4.6L motor I have up on a engine stand. I can always take from Paul to pay Peter right? :laugh_ti: and I know I have spare bearings here too somewhere. Just gotta look for 'em. If all that fails, there is a ***** about 2 miles from me. :thankyou: again and I'll keep ya posted what I find bro! ****

The PS pump has a bearing in the back of it that is changable. But that probably is not the problem. The '96-'97 idler pulleys had the raised edge, the '98-'99s did not. You can use either and infact you can use the Gen 3 ones on the V6 SHO motor.

The actual bearing is the same one on the V6 as it is the V8. Proprietary and only SHOnut has them that I am aware of. There are other bearings that can be interchanged as was posted over on TCCA.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its the top one too. Is that the one the bearings are readily available or do I need to go and start cussing now?? Here are the two pulleys in question. I'm assuming Paul is right and that I hightly doubt its the p/s pump too, but my luck it will be. These two idlers are what had to be installed to make the belt fit with the blower and such. And boy are they a pain to wrap the belt around; I can only imagine how much cussing I'll do getting the whole thing unbolted and removed from the motor.
