Okay so I changed the PTU fluid in my 13 PP and maybe only like 8oz drained out in about. 30 mins. From what I’ve been reading it calls for 12-16 ounces.

I read the fill plug is the temp sensor and you have to remove the rear cat to do it. So I extended the vent tube closer to the top and used it to fill the PTU.

MY question is, how concerned should I be with only draining out 8-10 black, sludgey ounces of poo? 13/90k miles. And should I change it again in about 500 miles?

ARGHHHH, ANOTHER PTU thread...I swear these things are like feeding the Mogwai after midnight!!! Why can't we just consolidate these things???!!!!

To answer your question, you should be pretty decently concerned...the case is meant to have 18oz in it. Some of your fluid was likely converted to that black crisco and didn't drain out. You're likely on borrowed time. I would get a bunch of cheap 75W140, fill it, run it, then drain it and do that repeatedly until you are confidant most of the sludge is out. Then put some good Redline or Amsoil stuff in it. Then you start praying it doesn't fail on you...

Now...can we start merging these PTU threads?

Yes run it a week, then change the fluid. Do it again. I agree, your on borrowed time. Time to start looking for another one before your current one pukes.

Not everyone has the same issue. I did a brief search. I did notice one night after about 3 digs it became disabled but the next day it worked fine. ill keep cycling the fluid, ill do another search for the fluid capacity

I told you the fluid capacity....18oz...

And the PTU issues are VERY common...there's gotta be close to a triple digit number of threads on this issue on this site alone....

Just fyi for everyone looking. My first ptu service was probably at 105k. (Bought the car at 93 or something) and then I religiously changed the fluid over 5x up to 135k using motorcraft, Royal purple and red line fluids. Upon dissembling the ptu still had slug in it in non fluid cycling areas. It doesn't work it's way out. It just sits there so there is a point of no return. However that being said my ptu was self machining itself and was still out proper working order.
