So I’ve seen multiple posts about the PTU in general but my question is more specific to any SHO owners in the Metro Detroit area.

I went to a local ford dealership in my city and they gave me an appointment to do my PTU fluid change for $189. When it’s time for me to bring my car there they take my info and tell me I’ll get a call back when it’s ready.

They call back only to say that my turbos are in the way of the drain pipe and that they’ll have to come off. Everything would cost roughly $400.

explained that mine is a PP and that it has a hole for drainage. Didn’t seem to matter.

**Anyone know a dealership or authorized place that can properly change the PTU fluid here?**

My dealersgip quoted me 150 for my 2010 if I brought fluids, thats total bull, tell them to lay on a crawler and stick a ratchet up there with a proper length 3/8 drive extension and the plug will come out, shit they could probably put the ratchet straight on the plug

You could get a competent tech from anywhere to do it especially in a PP. There are vids on youtube if they never did it before. Just make sure it gets the correct type of fluid you want if you go independent shop.

Way way back in the 90's before this forum existed, we used to collect hall of fame (and hall of shame) repair shops across the country for a reference resource for the community. There are a good amount of active ecoboost owners across a few websites. Maybe you folks should try and collect something similar. It wouldn't be difficult.

@SM105K oreillwys just quoted me $200 for 1qt of redline 75w-140

was that just for the fluid?? I got PTU fluid from my local ford dealership for like $25. Doesn’t directly say PTU but it’s in red motor craft packaging and says rear transmission fluid or something I think.

From what i gather Amsoil Severe gear and redline sbockproof are a coin flip for who is better, however it appears that Amsoil takes a slight lead in New and good gearboxes whereas Shockproof excels at helping older worn gear boxes tighten up again.
