My car recently developed the classic power steering whine. I use a turkey baster to suck out the old fluid. It actually looked pretty good, but it did not get the fluid from the bottom.

I put in a medium grade ATF fluid and it is slightly better, but still audible. Thinking I should completely remove the canister and drain the fluid? Or is the PS pump just NFG?

Thanks for the support!

Go get a couple quarts of cheap ATX and 2 quarts of some good stuff. preferably synthetic.

Using the cheap stuff keep drain down the reservoir weekly until you have ran the two quart threw. The do the same until you have goon through a quart and a half of the good stuff.

Well you can drain it all out quickly by disconnecting the cooler hose. But there is so little volume to the system and if the fluid is dark there is considerable build up internally. Just flushing it all out will result is dirty fluid again in a month due to the cleaning action of the new fluid.

That's why it really better and a lot easier to just keep changing out the reservoir until it stays clean then use the synthetic for long term use. Then once a year just exchange the reservoir again and you will be done with fluid maintenance in the PS system.

I did that unintentionally when putting in my auxillary tranny cooler. Removed the wrong tube in front of the radiator.
