I'm a little confused. Did you make those headlights yourself? How did you do this? The pictures look like they don't fit right. What housing did you use?

I like the projector style. And the smoked look. naughty

No I did not make them. I found this link when I was looking into doing this for my Gen I. If you need the link to the page that has other ideas for lights for a Gen II, then Look here. It has quite a few lighting upgrade alternatives for the SHO and even a price guide for what it might cost him to do this (even though it seems he won't because of time restraints. )

Keep in mind that anyone trying to reproduce what Herman did, that took him several hundred hours to do. Even what ChrisR did, took many hours. I'm currently making something similar to what ChrisR did, and I've already got about 15 hours into it probably gonna take about 100 to finish it. I really think this is the way to go if you want good lighting, those APC lights are more for looks that good lighting. Check out Hermans Lighting FAQ page if you're interested in building your own lights.

well, its official, APC blows. Here is how they replied:

"For APC to make certain parts in high volume and compensate for the initial tooling cost and expenditures, we would need a demand for such items. APC has recognized the Ford SHO Taurus as a vehicle that the owners would be customizing and looking for such items. Unfortunately, we do not foresee such a high volume of parts to be sold and if we would expect to see a return from the costs of making these items.

Thank you for your email. We do not offer the part you are inquiring about. If you would like more information of other APC products, please check out our website or call 1-800-594-4272 to speak with our customer service department.

Be sure to check out WWW.AMERICANPRODUCTSCOMPANY.COM for all the newest and hottest parts for your car or truck.

OK, I finally spotted this post. But now I don't know what to say... You guys have basically said it all. Like someone had said, even if APC or similar would make lights for the taurus, the light output usually sucks balls. However, they would make a much better starting point to do and OEM HID projector retrofit. Much easier then having to basically make everything from scratch.
Oh well.

Now, the time that is needed to make these headlamps yourself has already been discussed. Basically, find a second set of lamps while you work on this kinda time.

And the HID's will run anywhere from $400- $700 shrug depending on where you get them. How similar is the HID retrofit to the write up that Herman gave for the halogen retrofit??

Yeah right. I can just see all those HUNDREDS of people lined up to buy aftermarket light kits for their ASTRO MINIVAN!!! madflame

Basically the same message I have been receiving. I would like to hear from them how many units they would need to move to make a profit. Judging from some of the kits they sell, it would not appear to be that many. Asto Vans... huh

Can't comment of the quality of the light pattern though. Maybe I'll just add a set of those old Rally style Hella pencil beams with 250 watt bulbs. thumb

Honestly, and you'll probably think Im crazy, but with the same setup that I have in my 92 installed on my old 91 SHO, the 91 had better lighting shrug I honestly expected my 92 to have better lighting but noooo

I would probably be intersted in different headlights given the cost and the look. I really like the look of the SHO's now, and I honestly dont know if the look of the clear projector type headlights look quite right on them. The clear plastic in front of the blubs contrasts the bezeled[for lack of a better term] plastic for the turn signal bulbs and the fish tanks. Something similiar to the first pics SHODOG posted might work. But I am very picky about what my car looks like, it would be something I would have to see before I would be fully intersted.

I just helped my next door neighbor install a pair into his honda civic. A RICER>> I am looking to play with sometime. He bought them new for 400, that was just for the hids, then we had to install them into the actual headlamps. He thinks i could do the same, but i think there would have to be a lot more desinging to do. Wouldn't workj that well just being installed into our type of headlamps. I dont think it would very worth it. I love the PIAA fog lights i have. Just Get e decent set of foglights. They do make HID foglights too, inwish i have thought of modifying to fit into our fog lamp area, but i think the cops would give me problems for having foglamps/driving lights thatare brighter then our headlights.

Bump!!!

So are we left to hang out to dry for newer headlights? I'd love to be able to see where I'm going and get rid of the yellow housings I have installed currently. :thumb:

(edit: i was hoping after about a year someone would have good news. doesn't anyone have a cousin at APC or something? :bonk: )

Yeah, pretty long thread to find out there will be nothing, But i did learn that those aft mkt clear ones do not perform very well. Is OEM new the only way to go? Looks that way. But, also expensive. I don't know....

Sorry about that, but I suffered through the whole thing too. :bonk: I guess my next question is, barring aftermarket support, who knows ford dealers? Maybe a group buy is in order? If we could pull together at least a bunch of orders for new oem replacements, we might not take such a shot in the wallet.

I know there are a few people who have made their own headlight setups.. Isnt there SOMEONE who would make them, and mark them up a bit? I KNOW there a lot of people on here who would buy them, me being one of them, I just dont have the smarts or resources to tackle a job like that myself... :bonk:
