I'm going to upgrade the breaks. I'm just waiting for a chance when both of us can go to the junkyard and pull them off of a car.

I suspect both Tim and Ashley could learn much from each other. I doubt anybody here has as much experience with THEIR OWN TURBO APPROACH as either of them has with theirs.

I personally would trust my turbo project to either one of them, but would be hesitant to take Tim's set up to Ashley for fixing, or vice versa.

But c'mon... duhh!

PS Ashley, that appears to be one fine straight fuel curve!

thanks... the dyno guys were very impressed as well. I am glad you said what you did, because i think all of the above is correct especially about us learning from each other. so thanks for that and for the props.

I wish that SASHO would respond with some info about using the SAFCII and the tweecer together...just so you can see I am not just wasting money or time. Just because it isn't like everone elses setup doesn't mean it is a waste. Yes it was tuned with only the Tweecer originally and only put down 320 hp and that was tuned by a FORD performance shop. they could not get the daily driving hiccups out. I had the SAFC, I put it on, and i tuned the curve with that instead of the MAF settings on the tweecer and it fixed every bug. and put down 60 more HP.... yes you can have different settings, but i wouldn't even have that damn tweecer if i could do the ignition timing without it. Yes you can datalog, and yes you can see this and that. I agree, it is a nice part of it but I don't believe the tweecer is the Ford miracle product that everyone thinks it is. Sorry.

ashley

I'm not going to get into this debate once again. We, as well as a few other members in the past, know the SAFC works. It only works in the A/F department, but it's a great tool to use in conjunction with Tweecer. As we all know, Tweecer has a much more in-depth coverage for tuning the SHO and controlling other functions. However, with the ease of install, learning curve, and overall function of the SAFC it only makes tuning the SHO that much more simple. Again, I have not used either setup on a SHO so I have no real world experience with them. But I have tuned more than a few cars with just an SAFC and the results were sometimes better than a stand-alone setup. The only exceptions were cars that had cams and needed drastic timing changes.
All we are saying is that, the SAFC works, period. It's not on the same level that Tweecer is, as that's a whole different ball game. Where not saying that the SAFC is the better choice over Tweecer either. Yes, Tweecer can offer greater overall tuneability, HOWEVER, you can still tune the car with the SAFC and get the same results, easier and probably faster.

I guess when it comes down to it, it's just a matter of what you want to do. Don't like it? Don't use it. Want an easier setup but without all of the control Tweecer can give, but still get the same results(again, tune wise-not overall drivability)? Get an SAFC. Want the ultimate setup that can be easy to tune on the fly and have no bugs in it? Get both. Ashley has done just that, the car made great power, and the A/F was drastically better than any Tweecer based tune i've EVER seen.

To the OP, good luck with the build, your'e in great hands. Hope to see a great preforming car in the near future.

Well said! Kinda what I was trying to say, but didn't quite get the same point across.

good choice. I am sure this thread would be closed in minutes.

ashley

You'd be surprised! I can't speak for all of us, but there's three major topics of discussion that will get my attention: boobies, fast cars, and beer. Not particularly in that order....

Anyhow, enough hijacking, on with the new turbo project!

i should talk to matt see if he still got those brackets then you could do the upgrade rather easy...

we hopefully can find you a spare mtx for a good price...
92inpa got a mtx he selling... im not gonna say the price cuz he PMed me so just send him a PM asking what he wants for it.

if it comes down to it i got a spare mtx at brians i could sell ya that one cuz after i do my 95 im not gonna need a SHO trans anymore and the mtx in it now is a fresh rebuild and shifts like silk.

either way just give me a call around thursday or something..

good luck with the turbo SHO ;)

While Tim builds for max power, Ashley and Paul tune for stock drivability(from what I gather...).

While I do like lots of power (who doesn't?), max power has never been my goal, at least not with this current car. Reliability has always been my goal. What fun is 400hp if the car can only operate at WOT all the time? The goal with this car, with every modification that I made to it, with every change that I employed as compared to how it was when I purchased it, all were with the goal of reliability. The fuel lines, the injectors, the turbo, the engine, all of it will support a good deal more power than I am making. But broken transaxles are no fun, so a certain amount of self-control in the boost department is needed. If I wanted max power, I would do head work, BBB's/EH intake, cams, TB, nitrous, race gas and tons of boost. But literally one run through the gears at that kind of power and your trans is shot. So my engine, other than the forged pistons, is stock from top to bottom. And I think that has a lot to do with the drivability/reliability. The less things you change from stock, the better the car runs, for the most part.

Tim: My fiancee taught me to NEVER start a conversation with...

"you will want to..."
"you should..."
"Don't"

Good advice for sure, I will make an effort to use it!

Sweet. Keep us updated. We should start a turbo SHO only thread. This one will make 9 or 10, at least. A few years ago, I would never have thought. Very cool.
