Just thought I would post this up as I am starting to get all of the parts needed to turbo my car, a 1995 MTX SHO. They include:

1. Boosch Universal fuel injectors 50 pounds.
2. Apexi Safc 2
3. Tweecer RT
4. 255 LPH fuel pump
5. Adjustable fuel presure regulater
6. Wisco forged pistons?
7. Auto meter altralight boost gauge and Et gauge
8. Autolight step colder spark plugs
9.Diablo Sport mass airflow extender
10. Stage 4 clutchmasters flywheel
11. Shonut ceramic throw out bearing
12. New 9.75 flywheel

Helping me with the build are Ashely and Paul From NC.

They are going to do all the piping, tuning and supply the turbo, bov and the ehaust work with me helping them along the way.

I will keep you guys posted as the work progresses. I'm hoping to break the 400 hp mark which is easily attainable with the setup that they are running. And I'm going to be running the same.

Thanks Ashley and Paul, I can't wait!!!!

It is going to be crazy expensive. I figure on around 4K without forged pistons and 5-6K with forged pistons.

You will want to go more than one step colder on your plugs. Also, with all due respect to Ashley and Paul, you can save some money by passing on the MAFia and SAFC. The tweecer will provide all you need for a proper tune. Spend that money on a good wideband and other needed gauges.

don't worry...colder plugs are supplied by us. that is only the list of what he has to supply. we have everything else included for him. We only use the tweecer for timing adjustments. The MAFia and SAFCII control all the airflow adjustments into the motor. Over the years we have found this to be the MOST reliable for us so far. I found that the tweecer did not give good reliability for daily city low throttle driving and the SAFC takes care of that problem. Over the years we have collected all these parts and were able to try this and that and compare. nothing compares to having the SAFC on there for the daily driving. Johnathon knows what happened driving in Carlisle at 2 in the morning and i am sure he could tell you the story.... he knows what the car is, what it is capable of, and what we can do.

Have you guys ever tried just the tweecer? Seems like an expensive $500 if you only use it for timing adjustment. You could get a chip burned for less. Do you leave all the other settings stock? I wonder if your part throttle issues had to do with your BTM setup. I have only used a DTM, so that may be part of the equation, but with the tweecer, I have had no issues with part throttle, stop and go traffic, and this car is my daily driver. Did your original setup use a BTM, I seem to remember it did.

Anyway, if it works for you, that great. I just hate to see the power of that tweecer wasted. Especially the dial settings. Load up 2 or 3 different tunes, for different boost levels, or race gas, or whatever, and just turn the ****. I like how simple it is. What MAF are you using with the MAFia?

Also, 1995, what turbo are planning on running?

I wish that SASHO would respond with some info about using the SAFCII and the tweecer together...just so you can see I am not just wasting money or time. Just because it isn't like everone elses setup doesn't mean it is a waste. Yes it was tuned with only the Tweecer originally and only put down 320 hp and that was tuned by a FORD performance shop. they could not get the daily driving hiccups out. I had the SAFC, I put it on, and i tuned the curve with that instead of the MAF settings on the tweecer and it fixed every bug. and put down 60 more HP.... yes you can have different settings, but i wouldn't even have that damn tweecer if i could do the ignition timing without it. Yes you can datalog, and yes you can see this and that. I agree, it is a nice part of it but I don't believe the tweecer is the Ford miracle product that everyone thinks it is. Sorry.

i am not going to post anymore on johns thread. let him post what he needs.. this shouldn't be an argument as we always turn everything into somehow. As soon as my name comes up it is always something, and i feel for your general concerns, but reliability has been something we have achieved, i drive it everyday, i race it whenever i want, i take 20+hr straight through trips with it, plenty of people have seen it pulling into a show whether it be memphis or carlisle, I NEVER trailer it EVER not once. I don't want to hijack this thread about something stupid. Everyone has their ways of doing everything, your's is different, Showyas is different, Strings was different, and guess who gets the flack?? Ashley does. Sorry johnathon, I should have told you not to mention this to the forum. Not to offend anyone, but it always turns into this and that....I will just let him decide what he wants to do. he's been in the car, he was in the car when we whipped a nice nice SVT cobra... he know what it is about, let him decide what he wants to do, I am all for that. If he only wants the tweecer...then just put on the tweecer...and trailer it to everything if need be.

It is a turbo SHO, there certainly isn't any pattern set, you are different just for having the turbo, and I applaud you.

Yes it was tuned with only the Tweecer originally and only put down 320 hp and that was tuned by a FORD performance shop. they could not get the daily driving hiccups out.

Were you using a BTM at that time? Did you have those stage cams on at that time as well? They may have had a lot to do with the power and dirveability problems. I do not know the credibility of the shop you speak of, but I would not trust my SHO into the hands of any shop that did not have scads of forced induction SHO specific experience. Since one such as that does not exist, tuning it yourself is the only way to go.

I had the SAFC, I put it on, and i tuned the curve with that instead of the MAF settings on the tweecer and it fixed every bug. and put down 60 more HP.... yes you can have different settings, but i wouldn't even have that damn tweecer if i could do the ignition timing without it. Well, I certainly do not think it a miracle. It was released too early, with too many bugs, and without enough (read: ANY) documentation, so the learning curve can be frustrating. But having one for the sole purpose of changing timing, I guess I would just look for another way.

and of course...here i go once again.
in order.
1. yes blow through
2. no cams
3. it was a shop that only dealt with ford performance and tuning with the tweecer and sct.
4. I was being a little sarcastic about the timing only i mean yes it is good for other things, but it is not a miracle like you say as well..... how would you change the timing without the tweecer if need be..i thought you could ONLY do that with the tweecer..that is worth the money in itself so you don't blow up your car...you can't run a lot of boost without adjusting the timing.

that's it. no more posting for me unless required.

John, I apologize, but this needs to be addressed.

this shouldn't be an argument as we always turn everything into somehow.

No argument from me Ashley, simply offering a different point of view.

How is mine different? Different from what? Like I said, there is no pattern, and I applaud anyone who has the ability to produce a reliable strong running turbo SHO. You guys have that now. The issues you had with this board in the beginning were only because you insisted that people were wasting money by spending dough on their FI SHO's, since you had built one for so cheap. I, and others tried to warn you that they way you were doing things would result in blown engines. You learned that sure enough. And your current project is light years ahead of your first attempt. You are certainly not getting any flack from me about that. The only thing I have ever offered anyone on this forum who is attempting to build a turbo SHO is some of the lessons I have learned from my years of owing one. If there is a better way of doing things, I am all ears, and ready and willing to adopt new strategies, hence why I now use the tweecer. But it seems every time I or others offer a varying viewpoint, you act as if we are trying to discredit your efforts. Nothing could be further from the truth.

If he only wants the tweecer...then just put on the tweecer...and trailer it to everything.

ashley

Another dig perhaps, why? Had my comments insinuated something along the lines that your car and way of doing things was in some way inferior, I could understand your stance. But then you go and do the very thing that you assume of others. Maybe once we finally meet in person, you will have a better idea of who I am and where I am coming from. I have fielded hundreds of PM's from people over the years asking for advice on turbocharging their SHO. Not one of them has taken my words as condenscending in nature, only helpful. If I need to modify my way of repsonding so that you will also feel that way, I will do my best to oblige.

not a dig, just a person getting fed up with getting hated on all the time. I don't think you are wrong, but you don't agree i'm right either. like you said everyone does it different. I think that yes, in the beginning, it is true what you said about doing it cheap.....and yes it is lightyears away now like you say. I don't hate you or what you do, and i don't discredit you, i just notice that anytime my name is mentioned....you or someone else mentions why i shouldn't do what i want, how i want. I mean there are people that aren't even posting on here, that have met me and see what we do and don't stick up or what not, it isn't about a horsepower race, or anything like that. I am not trying to beat you, I am not trying to be you... I just do it different. If he wants.... put on the tweecer and send me a file i can mod for his car. it can be done. I just did mine different and it works out great for me. there is no problem in that. So lets agree to umm...well not dissagree, but just get along...especially because fighting over stupidness on a forum at 23 years old...is well, stupid...right?

oh and i didn't say trailer it everything. i said trailer it to everything if need be. meaning when all is said and done, if that didn't work out, you'd have to trailer it. you deleted a bit to much of my sentence.

I got no business in here but WTH...

It appears to me that Tim has (understandibly) trained himself to give advise and share his experiences. I think that's what he was doing...I DON'T think he was trying to discredit you or your methods.

Tim, while I'm sure you know your stuff like nobodies business. I think Ashley and Paul know THEIR stuff like nobodies business, too.

While Tim builds for max power, Ashley and Paul tune for stock drivability(from what I gather...).

I can certainly see where two different approaches might both be successfully employed.

Also, it seems to me that weather or not there is money to be saved in a different approach is the business of the payer and the payee..not mine or anyone elses.

Tim: My fiancee taught me to NEVER start a conversation with...

"you will want to..."
"you should..."
"Don't"

Holy crap did this get out of hand!

Tim, I've never met you, only read your many informative posts, and what I know of you from Kirk D. You seem like a great guy.

Ashley, I've met you and Paul twice and I think you're very smart and determined people who built a great drivetrain that is powerful, reliable, and keeps the stock fuel economy (I asked Paul about that).

I think it's important to note that nobody seems to be calling you out Ashley, or saying what you guys do is wrong, but they're simply pointing out other ways to do things.

As a group, we're pretty much at the mercy of DIY projects and getting help from other members' experiences. We're not like mainstream cars that you can bolt stuff on and make gobs of power in an afternoon. Personally, I like it that way and it's the reason I'm still into these cars.

So, as a group, we should be sharing our experiences and what we've learned with the others who want to do similar projects. Again, not calling people out, but sharing different thoughts on the project.

That being said, and knowing your location, I can guess who did your tuning the first time with the Tweecer. I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about it, however I can say that if it is the vendor I am thinking of, the problem may have lied with them more than the Tweecer. But, I am glad that you have a setup that has worked so well for you. I witnessed firsthand at the Carlisle dyno what that car is capable of, on a 103 degree day!

Now, I would kindly suggest that perhaps we can all discuss this with goals in mind: build a strong, reliable TurboSHO with a value-based budget in mind.

Either that, or someone's gettin' taped to a lightpole again! :)

Toolman, I really don't understand how to tune these cars myself yet. So as of now I am going by what Ashley and Paul say. All I know is I have rode in there car and it is realiable and runs exceptionally well.

Also it runs like a bat out of **** and we beat up on a supercharged Mustang Cobra that was running 15 psi and had 20K dollars put into it.

So as of now I will go with the setup they are using. I have seen it and it works. They also drive it everyday and it is realiable.

And Ashley, I don't mind you commenting on this post as all. You guys are helping me do all of the work and you have as much right to post on this as everyone else does. And will you guys be providing the spark plugs?

one thing im gonna repeat tho that im shocked no one on here said it...
speed is chaos without control ...
suspention better be in order and so should the brakes...

rushing into something like this can cost you your life very quick.

any money you stick into your car im hoping the same attention goes for suspention and brakes... like i told you the 96 upgrade is the bare min i would recommend for a turbo car.

a stock SHO can fry the 96 brake upgrade quick also.

the other min for suspention would be pbr bushings and that all the springs and struts are in working order...
all mounts and bushing need to be addressed or you will be in trouble with 400 hp.
not to mention motor mounts and solid subframe bushings because the whole subframe can detach from the car.. so do the recall... dont even think about it... should be the first mod for just about everyone on this forum mainly because how much can go wrong if those bolts fail... and they do.

the reason boosted SHOs cost as much as they do because you need to do all kinds of maintence to get the car ready for something like that.
all it takes is 1 failed bolt..

and i wouldnt recommend going to 400 hp right away... it takes getting used to.. start out low and work your way up.

other then that good luck and be patient no rushing
