I have a 93' ATX that's shifting hard from 1-2. I've heard that putting in a 94'-95 processor may help. Anyone tried this or have the Ford part number of a processor that would work?

Thanks,
Chad

Chad,
Tha hard 1-2 shift is probably caused by tranny damage. According to Ted Breaux, the D4U1 computer that comes in the 94-95 models has superior internal processors than do the H3Z1s that come with the cars. I don't know if changing alone will help you, but if you plan on future mods, I would highly suggest it as it makes the car run better with it. I would start with a tranny flush, see if that helps and then we will take the next step. I would hate to see you purchase one to try and fix this problem when in all reality, it wouldn't help unless you were experiencing other drivability problems with the car. Good luck.. burn_out

Damn! I was just waiting for someone to ask this very question. I just removed my H3Z computer this past Saturday morning in put in a slightly used D4U1 from a '95.

The very, very first thing I noticed was how much smoother the 1-2 shift is. Don't let anybody tell you it's due to a failing tranny...my tranny only has 30k miles on it (rebuilt with a Transgo) and has had the hard 1-2 shift from day 1.

Replacing the inferior H3Z computer is the only way to go!!!

You don't happen to have the Ford part number on the D4U1 do you? Should be a F2D.... something. My rebuilt tranny has alot less miles than yours so I'm doubting that's the problem.

I'm also having idling problems (already replaced the IAC valve), that's the original reason I wanted to try another processor.

Thanks,
Chad

I installed a D4U1 this weekend and my tranny shifts like new! I would suggest anyone else having hard 1-2 shifts in their 93 ATXs to do this.

Thanks for all your help Steve.
