Hey my car isn't passing inspections and the mechanic is telling my that one of my cats is blocked up and not getting hot enough. The car failed emmissions because of nox, limit was 3.25 and the car ran a 3.27, great huh? But i'm lost trying to figure out how i can possibly get a new cat from magnaflow or who ever i bought the pipe from, (sho bro's?). I'm talking about the equal length y-pipe group buy from last late summer. Does anyone have any info that can help me? Thanks

nox faliure is too much heat in the cubustion chamber.. it sounds shaddy..but i would pull out the shorting bar for the octane.this will retard the timing 3-4 degrees there fore lowering the temp in the chamber and then i should pass..i have tried this several times to stump students in our emmissions class. and since the ign timming is not adj most try every thing else but thhis. it wont run that well when you drive it to the station for inspection but it will make it pass.. another time i had a student get a 89 sho to pass without pulling it.. i couldnt figure out what he did i checked and checked.. he put a rag in the bottom of the air box that was soaked in gasoline...caused the car to be rich a secound then it adjusted it out and passed barly but passed

Ya but if i have a bad cat, which is hurting fuel economy and power, i have to get it changed, not just trick the emissions testing equipment. Has anyone had this problem with this pipe or know of any laws or anything concerning warranty's on aftermarket cats? I know factory cats have a 5yr 100k mile warranty mandated by the feds

If you had a bad cat, your car would be running like crap, and barely running at that. If it still runs and drives fine, it's not a cat.

Pull the SPOUT and get past the test, then work on some basic maintenance like plugs and wires, and some fresh O2's if yours are more than 3 years old.

Oh, clean the MAF sensor too.

There is no reason that car should be failing emmisions based on the Y-Pipe alone. My non EGR MTX with failing plug wires and a SHOshop equal length Y-pipe with cat's that were on their way out passed California emmisions. I would start looking elsewhere but in the mean time pull the spout connector like suggested above. :thumb:
