Hey all,

I'll make it brief. The custom exhaust shop that I brought my SHO to for the SFC install will not do it. Their reasons are as follows:

1. The raised channel by the driver's side door and pass. side door is a drain of some sorts and would be blocked (I thought that went through the rocker panels...)

2. The heat from the weld could light the carpet on fire, meaning that the carpet would have to be taken out (this is new, I've never heard of this before)

3. The SFC would get in the way of the trailing arm bushing in the rear, making it unservicable.

Now I know they've done plenty of Mustang applications, but I get the impression that they just didn't want to do that. Is there any validity to their arguments?

And more importanty, does anyone know of a place in Eastern Massachusetts that will install them on a SHO? Welding is the only skill I don't have, so it's the only thing I can't do myself.

Thanks in advance!

Seams to me its BS reasons. You can do whatever mods to your car (i mean it's "your" car doesnt it?).

Not to worry about the carpet if its cold with water once in awhile (while welding)

Other reasons seams unlikely , Anyone with a good welder is able to do that (any Mr. Mechanic guy garages - Exhaust garages - etc)

The worst they can say is "im not responsible if (this or that) breaks" .

Sub-frame connector.

Greg, Find a different shop. All are valid reasons, but....chances are low that the carpet will ignight, it's Your prob if the bushings are'nt serviceable..not theirs..lol. As far as the drain system....I know of No problems from others.

Replace the bushings & fuel filter prior to getting them welded. Relocate the filter a little if you want to guarantee access. As for the rest...

If you have a really bad (ie, not conscious of these things) welder yeah, you can burn the rug. Not likely to happen, as mentioned.

It's in New England. The car's going to rust out EVERYWHERE, what's the point of worrying about that spot?

More likely, you're going to have to relocate a cat-back hangar location, which is usually the ONLY concern. The place I have down here that does them is aware of the purpose & installation techniques, they remove the paint under there, weld, then spray over (so bring your paint of choice or you get what they have on the shelf). Costs about $100 for both sides, and takes about an hour in & out.

I appreciate the help guys. I figured that if he's concerned about lighting the carpet on fire, he probably shouldn't touch my car anyway. I've been asking around town, most places (custom welding shops, custom exhaust shops) are quoting my 150 - 210 for the install, which is absolutely ridiculous, so I might have to check out that place in Rhode Island.

The hanger was the least of my concerns. It was stretched anyway, so I was going to pick up an new one and give it to the installers. Just wanted to get some thoughts on the subject.
